Is the Trophy LR worth it?

I'm getting a PCP on a used MG4... It works out roughly £40 a month more expensive to get a Trophy LR rather than a SE LR... My question is is it worth it?

I'm taking the PCP for 36 months.

PCP on used vehicles is always poor (higher interest rates) compared to new. Have you tried doing the comparative sums?

As to whether the extra features of the Trophy vs the SE are worth it - only you can decide that.

Personally I'd go for the SE every time, but the forum is absolutely crawling with people who want the satnav and the heated seats and the wireless phone charging and all the rest of it. It's entirely a matter of personal preference. Only you can decide whether the extra spec is worth the extra money to you.

I've got the Trophy because I didn't want to regret not spending the extra.

You have only two options in Turkey, These are SE SR and Trophy LR. I preferred the Trophy LR version. Faster DC charging. Also, its range is better.

I love SE owners and I even believe some of them are real people! ?

That said, your advice is top drawer: only the purchaser can decide what is worth it.

• Heated seats and heated steering wheel.
• 360 camera and reversing camera.
• Sat nav built in (if you don't use AA/Carplay).
• The double wing at the back, if you like it.
• Auto folding wing mirrors.
• Auto dimming rear view mirror.
• Wireless phone charging (but no wireless AA/CarPlay).
• More options / configurations in the settings.

Those are the main ones I can think of.

Thats what I went for. New Trophy LR in Red. Even though I have the money in the bank to pay outright, I might as well pay over 3 years at 0% whilst collecting 5.5% on the savings.

Also, the garage knocked £2000 off the asking price, they said it was because they had ordered 6 months of stock to arrive for April but MG had dumped the whole lot on them at the beginning of this month (Feb 24) and no really got room to store them all. So where knocking £2000 if you took one from stock.

You've misread what's written ... on the SE only the driver's window can be opened/closed fully with a single press/pull of the control; the other windows you have to press/pull and hold to open/close fully. On the Trophy all windows can be one-touch operated (via their respective controls).

Those are the main ones I can think of.

About the seat materials, you can get aftermarket seat covers in the same fake leather for the SE if you want them. (Or indeed for the Trophy if you want to protect the originals.)

I did this, both to protect the original seat material because I plan on keeping the car for a long time, and to brighten up the interior (I now have beige seats). In winter I have noticed the lack of heated seats - for about 20 seconds. Whereas the cloth seats are fine to sit on when you get into a pre-warmed car, the fake leather covers still feel a little chilly to the touch.

But as I said, it's transient. Within seconds the seat cover material has warmed up, and I'm cosy in the pre-warmed car, and I don't even think about it again.

I was on the fence but glad I went for the higher spec.
I use rear camera all the time, and 360 for parking regularly (both multiple times a week if not daily), and use the heated seats/steering wheel a lot in the winter.
Much prefer the look of the rear spoiler too (if I had gone for lower spec I 100% would be sourcing aftermarket one).

Those are the main ones I can think of.

This is most of it, personally the only things I'd miss is the heated seats / wheel, auto wing mirrors and the rear view camera, obviously the extra range is nice but hardly a deal breaker.

There's other things like 360 camera, false floor in the boot, electric drivers seat but none of those are really essential. If I was buying new I'd be tempted to go with the SE but as it's used I would go with the Trophy.

The SE has its issues, but they're consistent, and once you've found your work-round you're OK. In contrast Trophy owners seem to be constantly complaining about their phone unpairing and things like that.

I find the 360 camera particularly useful given that my work car park has big pillars and not very big spaces... the autofolding wing mirrors are also useful there.

In a way, the camera does substitute for the rear cross traffic alert as you can see whats coming round the corner (the camera is reasonably wide angle) so there's redundancy there, but it's better to have two options to do similar things than nones, imo.

Most importantly to me at least, is the range increase over the standard SE. I know the SE owners will tell you it's fine, and it probably is, but it's a little bit more comforting to be less stressed about longer journeys. Which is why when my PCP deal runs out I might look at the ER even though I know in strictly logical terms I'm unlikely to need the extra capacity given my typical driving...

It's all about personal preference, which is why there are five different MG4s available in Britain alone. People's needs differ, and people's preferences differ, and people have different comfort zones as regards range. It's always helpful to hear why people chose as they did, and whether they might have chosen differently in hindsight, but really, only the individual can decide what they personally prefer. Others can only help make it an informed choice.

You are not wrong. The Trophy has considerably more complicated software than the SE (due to all the extra systems) and this is presumably why it has more bugs and issues.

That said, since R46, things have been pretty stable, the issue is people can't always get that version for reasons unknown. Hopefully with R58, the final significant bugs will be fixed for the Trophy and it will be similarly stable to the latest SE release.

As a Trophy LR owner, I would have bought a Trophy SR if they made it and after a year of driving it, I can say that the SR range would have been plenty.

If you can charge at home, there is no real need for the extra range. Almost all journeys we undertake would fit fine in the SR range, which you can always charge to 100%, narrowing the difference.

Before I had my first EV - this car - I thought I needed far more range than I actually do and this has been the same story for many other people I have spoken to.
