Well, I have had my MG3 since March 1st and up to last Friday I had done 600 miles, yes I know not a lot, but having four cars, it means they all get lower annual mileages.
Anyway, our neighbour was going on a cruise from Southampton so we offered to take her down there, from near Lincoln, we were originally going to spend some time that way, visit some friends, and then come back, but they too, spookily, on the same cruise as our neighbour, so we then arranged to go and meet a friend for coffee in Germany, a long way for a coffee and an hour or two of chat, but it gave us the chance of testing the car properly.
The car recorded 1475 miles, and averaged out 53.65mpg, which to be honest is great, considering most of it was on the auto routes and autobahns, I did not drive like an idiot, 103 kph on the main roads all the time, set the cruise and off it went. The only issue was that over revving, I have never heard it here in the UK, but with the radio off we could hear it, and it was bad, it seemed to like over revving between 60kph and 90kph, once it reached 90 if settled back down, I switched the screen to the generator page to see what it was doing and where the power was going, and at times the revving reached 4.5, which I took it to mean 4,500 rpm, I put my foot on the break very lightly to stop the cruise and it dropped back to normal, until cruise was re-established and the revs rose again, but this time I put my foot on the accelerator to get it up to speed quicker. once at 103 kph, the revs seemed to be more user friendly, LOL, or ear friendly, it would rev ever few miles to charge the battery a bit and then drop down, never going about 3.0 or 3,000rpm.
I have had the update for the hill issues, and here in the UK it seemed to be ok, but on some of the hills, on cruise it would struggle to get back up to the set speed, especially in EV mode, once HEV chipped in it picked up speed quicker. Overall I am impressed with the car, it is very quiet overall, except when over revving, it is very comfortable, and more comfortable than some of our other cars, and cars we have owned previously that cost four times the price, there was more than enough room in the boot for our luggage, as well as plenty of booze from Citi Europe on the way back.
Considering the weight that was in the car and the fact that the car was not properly run in when we left for our trip to get nearly 55 mpg overall, on mainly major roads where we were driving for 100's of km's non stop, we were both really happy with the figures. I am still a bit taken aback by the mega high revving, as it has not done it to that extent here in the UK, when I was driving about here, so will see what happens over the next few weeks, and if it revs to that level I will ask the dealer what they think, I know it does this, but I did not think it would rev like that.
Great car, very happy with it, the only issue I had, which is really silly, is that when it rained, and it did rain well while there, the water that ran down the side of the door by the A-Pillar was like a hose pipe running water, as all the water was pushed to that point by the car movement, once it met an open gap it is where it went, and it was really noisy, as it was right by my ear, but thats it really, silly I know, but thats all I can find that I was not overly happy with...
Mutley, yes we called him that, LOL, has had his bath and is back in the garage until we need him again !
