I think Cadbury Confusion might be a better name for it, not quite dark cholate and not dairy milk colour .... it would be a bugger to keep clean, there'd be bite marks and lick marks every time you parked in a supermarket carpark .... and if it was in Australia, you'd have to park it underground ..... otherwise it would be a puddle on the ground covered in ants

Not keen on that colour tbh.
A swinging back in time to old colours of models long passed by now.
  • Russet Brown (Code 51): A common, classic paint for the 3500/SD1.
  • Brazilia Brown: Often associated with the Series 2 models.

Yes of course, I remember them in that colour. (y)

Yep, British Leyland colour. Ital, Marina, Allegro and probably more. Some might say the colour suited the actual cars, perfectly. And the not be forgotten, Diarrhoea Biege, another BL colour. Seems they thought we know our cars are crap. May aswell give them appropriate colours. 😉🙂👍

I do clearly remember carrying a set of trade plates over to the show room, in order to pick up another new car then return back to the workshop, so I could carry out its PDI checks and fit number plates, prior to its delivery.
Strange, as this car was at the back of the holding area with a sheet covering it ?.
When I spoke to the sales manager, he told me it was the very first SDI 3500 model we had received and it was waiting to take pride a place on turn table in the show room, for a launch evening being held the following night.
When we removed the sheet, I remember thinking how the car looked totally different to any of the current models.
I was the first person to drive it the short distance back over to the workshop, it did receive some pointing of fingers etc alright !.
It WAS finished in that brown colour shade.
They did a 2.3 and 2.6 model, but the V8 3500 was the nice one to drive.

My first car was a 1980 Austin MiniMetro in Diarrhoea Beige.
Bought in 1992 with 6000 miles on the clock!
No radio, no 12V/lighter socket, it still had a BL inspection ticket from Oct 1980 (when BL launched the car) in the unused ashtray.

I remember shit outside, diarrhoea inside, and matching rust underneath.

Always thought the Rover SDI 3500 Vitesse, was really something, back in the day. Looked great. 🙂👍

Totally agree !.
I did a PDI checks on a couple of SD1 V.P.'s.
The nicest one I did, was finished in a loverly electric blue colour with a black leather interior.
It was some type of limited edition model I think, because I never seen another one after that in that colour.
