They are decorative. But main purpose is protect your Key Fob, if you drop it. Which you almost certainly will.

As @salty said, they protect the key fob from scratches either by being dropped or from the other bits and pieces in your pocket or bag.

They were needed on the fobs for the MG4 as they had a habit of opening up and you'd lose the physical emergency key.

I've had the Ali express ones for a couple of months. They are silicone and seem quite durable. Note that some of them have different printing on the door buttons for the cyberster.
