My car is in a bodyshop for repairs after a minor accident and has been there for two weeks.
The mechanic has left the key in the car over that period.
Now, when he tries to move the car, it "bongs" repeatedly ans shows "place key in backup position".
The car will not go into "Ready" mode.
Anyone know anything about this?

That did not work.
Turns out that the key had not been removed from the car for a considerable period and the immobiliser had locked on. Removing the key from the locality of the car allowed the immobiliser to reset and it all returned to normal.
The curious thing is that whilst the car was not responding the 12v battery had been disconnected the reconnected to try to get it all to work and it made no difference.
Lesson learnt is to remove key from car!
