According to the battery monitor there is only a trickle loss over time so I don't expect it needs much on our vehicle - I did look at the 20w+ solar panels but the efficiency seems to vary and the reviews on the AA 4.8w seems to suggest that it works fairly well. Humm.I'm not convinced 4.8W is anywhere near enough. I have a 20W solar PV I leave in the window facing south when I leave it for extended periods (like 3 months at a time) and that only just keeps the battery at 12 V. No camera on that. When I have the camera in, I use 2 x 20W panels.
It makes sense to me to have a maintenance option over a 'flat battery & revive' solution - but it needs to work of course may need to test...although the jump start option would get us out of other problems.
