Does anyone know how to make the screen automatically switch between light and dark modes?

I found some threads saying it was possible on the MG4, but can't find the setting on the S5. Also the same thing for Android auto. I have it set to "auto" on my phone, but it is always in dark mode even if the screen is set to light.

It doesn't appear to be possible. There are a few obvious things that are not in the current software release, I am hopeful they get fixed in an update later down the line.

Thanks sammoj. I would hope they fix it since apparently the MG4 has it.

Set the screen brightness you want for daylight. Turn on the headlights and set the screen brightness you want for night time. Next time you drive at night it should automatically switch over. It does for me.

It helps but it's still very bright at night in the Light theme imho.

Thanks. I meant switching the theme from light to dark.

Just got the MG S5EV and posting to see if anyone has any updates on this. The light mode at night illuminates the whole car and dark mode during the day especially if its sunny, makes it so you cant read a thing

@Wilky

Welcome to the MG EV forums!

Infotainment screen day/night mode has not been well thought-out (in terms of automatic switching from one to the other, depending on level of daylight) but there is a "workaround" to give "day" mode during daytime and night mode at night!

If your screen brightness is set to "Automatic" it defaults to Dark, even if your side and headlights are off. When you first get into the car simply manually turn ON and then immediately OFF your sidelights. This will force the screen to daytime mode.

As soon as the automatic light sensor decides to turn on your side and/or headlights, the screen will go "dark" (e.g., when passing through a road tunnel) but once out in daylight again, your lights will go off and the screen will revert to daytime mode.

HTH

Android Auto does go into dark mode when the headlights come on, so while it's not ideal if you leave that as the main display you at least don't get blinded.
