Little on the outside, large on range

And yet some people don't like the Tesla layout, also minimalist
I think the MG4 has the right balance, most of the things you need when driving are on the steering wheel and can be accessed by touch and of course the driver binnacle. I'd lose the pointless volume buttons and have a couple more customisable buttons in their place.

4 custom buttons would be perfect, if you could map any function to them, would allow very easy changes.

At the moment I have my left custom button mapped to 360 camera on/off and right one to AC overlay on/off. It'd be cool to have another couple of buttons for Drive Mode and Regen setting (or indeed a couple of paddles that change these). The reason for the 360 camera is that it only appears automatically when reversing, but I find it useful when driving forwards into a space or kerb too.

With the newer MGs, they have separate hand controls for volume, temp, fan speed, etc... so perhaps 2 custom buttons are enough, with no need for AC to be bound to one of them?

I'd like to see a double-press on a physical button to select saved MG Pilot settings - like on a Renault - assuming they haven't patented this - or even better, Driver Profiles, so when the Infotainment powers up you select your name or "Guest" and it applies the right settings first time.

I agree that you can pay for 3rd party add-ons to fix some of the missing buttons, stalks and screens in a Tesla, but really how many people are going to do that when these things are not missing for all other makes?
Stalks aren't missing anymore they brought them back, listened to customers and realised it was a step to far

I thought that was only on the Model 3, not the Model Y and it is very limited in what it does. There's only one stalk - wipers are still touch screen job.

Tesla: just give us two multifunctional stalks like everybody else!

New juniper has it also but your right it's indicators.

Agree. Think the screens on the MG4 are spot on. Well for me anyway. The screen in front of me, is just right. And t'other screen is great. Don't need any bigger, than that. Agree, that the ability to switch things, of permanently, would be good.
But that ain't gonna happen. And even that's not the end of the world. 🙂👍

Yes, 4 would be good, but if we had 4, we'd probably want 6.
The thing is with custom buttons, is they'd need little displays as well. I'm sure some higher caliber brands will do that at some point, if they don't already. In MG land we'd probably have to make do with a sticker pack! I have already stuck little blue and red dots on the right hand steering wheel for the temp.

I'm probably in a small minority but my thinking is that I would like a small EV but with a long range.
This hasn't always been my thoughts but has slowly percolated to the top. I have always liked big cars since having a family and got used to comfy cruising after the boyhood boy racer went and parked in the back room. Now the family has long gone I'm leaning now towards smaller vehicles.
When I progressed to EVs my first had a smallish range, (ZS EV Gen1), but when I saw the MG5 had longer range, 250, that was for me and I believed that range was sufficient for anybody really. In practical common sense terms it still is.
However when I moved away from MG for various reasons I got a Kona Gen1 facelift, as in my profile pic, and the WLTP for that is 302 miles (and easily achievable when it's not cold). I have got used to that and find it very useful having the extra range. We have a friend that lives in Northumberland and a day trip to visit is around 240 miles. Doing this without even considering a charge during the day is handy, not to mention economically cheaper.

So not to cut a long story short, I quite fancy a small car with a range of 300 (achievable) miles. Say a Renault 5 or similar with a WLTP of 350. I know the arguments of why carry around a big battery when you're only travelling locally 90 percent of the time ? However if we carry that argument to it's conclusion we would only ever have cars with small range.

This is a case of range convenience and not of anxiety. Am I alone ?
You are not alone...I have a 24 plate ZS Long Range and, whilst I am mainly satisfied with it, my next EV will have to be able to do the trip to Wales of 180 miles in the depth of winter with rain and blowing a gale WITHOUT me even thinking about topping up on the way!

More smaller EVs are coming.

I think 2026 will be the year of the battle of £20,000 (list price) family EVs and also the year of secondhand EV buying dramatically accelerating.

2027 likely to be the year of the small EV, with many makers planning Polo-sized vehicles.

Not sure how many small EVs will prioritise a long-range option. Probably not many.

I just wish Kias looked nicer. How hard is it not to make something ugly?

Did I read right that they are putting the big battery from the ev3 in the ev2 as an option
Would appear not.

Agree it's not much of a looker, no doubt will be a decent car but the Renault 5, new Polo and Raval look better looking cars

We are in a trend shift at the moment: higher cost, higher performance but smaller storage space RWD EVs to cheap, mass market, large storage FWD, dynamically-average cars.

The RWD options won't disappear but FWD will dominate in the future because the mass market wants space and price above all else.
