V2L (Vehicle to Load ) is the most exciting thing about the new Marvel R for me. I expect that I will probably be alone in this so let me explain. Once you have an EV it makes a lot of sense to make your own fuel at home from Solar. I have solar and batteries, I make all my power for my car and the majority of the power for my house as well. In Thailand we don't have home heating but we do use aircon. I am off-grid most of the year but during the monsoon season you can have several days of rain, so then I draw from the grid. With V2L I would have access to the 70kWh battery of the Marvel R and really be off-grid.

If you can keep your usage under 2.5kw then it can work for you but I don't think it's intended for anything but short term use (i.e. boiling a kettle as they say)?

My house is super insulated and uses less than 1kW even with aircon running (except when charging the car in the middle of the day (solar production is not shown in the graphs below as it would mess with the scale)

The inverters can be set to draw for the grid or a generator or a Marvel R when batteries get to a predetermined level

Do you have any official information on whether the Marvel will be sold in Thailand?

Asked my dealer last week - nobody had even heard of it apart from the dealership owner and they didn't know if or when it was coming.

Thailand is RHD like the UK and there is no RHD version of the Marvel R yet.

If its RHD then you probably won't get the current version like us here in the UK.

Again, with a maximum output of 2.5kw it's not something you'd want to be doing on a regular basis. Possibly help someone out if they run out of juice by giving them a few extra miles.

Maybe it's easier to understand my thinking if I explain my solar system. I have 20kW of PV; 4 inverters; 27kWh of Lithium and 38.4kWh of deep cycle gel. The house runs on PV when available, excess is put into the house batteries, then into the car. At night the house runs on Lithium, until 22% DOD, then gel batteries until 50% DOD and then the grid. All Batteries are set to only charge via solar. When the house runs from the grid it only powers the house - you can see from the graph above that the house draws less a 1kW. I would be looking to add V2L to power this load for an hour or 2 until PV can take over. So in total we are looking at a couple of kWhs a few days a year during the rainy season.

Unless you are 99% off-grid like I am, you cannot appreciate the value of V2L

 
This is the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV - my idea of a car that can charge your picnic - in fact it is even advertised as such.

With the Marvel R you can lock your car up and don't even need to switch it on.

I understand it would work well for you but you can pretty much do that now for a couple of hundred pounds using an inverter. Not as as simple and a bit more messy but much cheaper.

I have 4 inverters already (all costing north of 1,000 pounds) and a fifth would not add any more storage.

I could add another 9kWh battery for 2,000 pounds but 9kWh is a lot less than 70kWh.

I am never going to need an extra 70kWh to power my house but I may need more than 9kWh.

Do you know the difference between the HV and the 12V battery?
There is no way that you can tap into the HV battery 'a little messy and an inverter' - actually the inverter is the least of the problems. PinT is rigth, the V2L is mandatory on all electrical vehicles, and I would not be surprised that in the not so distant future this will be legislated into the green new deal.

Why yes I do as it happens and I said nothing about tapping into the hv battery.

The Marvel R will be capable of putting out a max 2.5kw of power as has been said a number of times in this thread. You can already achieve this via the 12v battery using a (£250) inverter albeit you have to have the car 'on' to allow the hv batt to keep the 12v topped up. As I said achievable if messier.

mmhhh........you are saying you think you can pull over 200 Amps from the 12 V battery continuously? I rest my case.

I'm saying the inverters exist and the possibility to utilise them exists and now you're putting put words in my mouth, why are you being so aggressive?

Not sure what EVGeezer are on about, but never mind. I have ordered the Marvel but wonder if you have found out if it can be remotely set to switched from charging to supplying mode? (It's the same socket on the car)
