Thailand model IM6. I received an emergency mechanical key along with only one remote key. The question is where does the mechanical key get inserted in order to unlock the car in an emergency? The owner’s manual is pretty much content free 😠

I have some ‘new’ info on the mechanical key. The dealer was no help. I finally asked CHAT-GPT, and after six or seven attempts to answer the question, it finally came up with something that may be useful. If you press the front edge of the handle in (it’s pretty stiff) the back edge raises up a bit. I haven’t progressed past that point yet. Perhaps someone can take this to a conclusion. The content free owner’s manual says nothing about this. The owner’s manual says pretty much nothing about everything.

Here is what I got from ChatGPT

I am driving an IM6, not a MGS5 as listed in my profile. I have no idea how MGS5 got into my profile, and I have no idea how to correct it.

I can supply photos, but as you will see, there isn’t much to look at.

Ahh yes of course, I forgot it has the flush handles, in that case it will be as you said, push the front of the handle, and the back edge will lift up to reveal the key slot.

The key hole is indeed visible, but not accessible yet. The extended handle blocks straight in access. ChatGPT mentions prying something, but I haven’t figured that out yet. I was in great hope that someone here in the IM6 area had already figured this out. The dealer doesn’t have a clue.

You're our first IM6 owner @evets, so we're relying on you mate. 😊

Wow!! I didn’t realize I was the first IM6 member. When were they available in the UK? They supposedly came available here last March. Around the end of June, I called the local MG showroom, and they didn’t have one, and didn’t know when they would get a demonstrator. So sales drove me to a MG dealer in the adjacent province to look at one. It’s a much bigger province so it gets more cars. That dealer had one on the showroom floor - that’s it. Evidently they aren’t easy to get here. I know I got the first one in this province, I had to go to the DLT/DMV so they could get a baseline weight for that model. Why that is important to the gov. is beyond my pay grade.

You folks are in for a treat, this car is awesome, though a bit to get a handle on sometimes.
This is my 18th car with a Datsun Lil’ Hustler pick up in there somewhere. I have owned cars from Germany (5), Japan (10), UK (MG), Italy (Fiat 850 Spyder), China (IM6). My second car was a ‘67 B-GT bought shortly after my first car, ‘64 Beetle, swallowed the number 3 cylinder exhaust valve. I loved that MG and I became an expert tuning the carbs. All were anemic 4 cylinder engines until I got a Land Cruiser with a cloned Chevy six. Back to four cylinder until I got to the BMWs. Three E39 540 with 8 cylinders, and a 320d. It is an entertaining spread.
For my income, I started in hardware design, and I was too impatient to endure the long development cycles. So I switched to software, machine code, assembly,C, C++, Python.
I retired at 55 years and started instructing in a track school. Instructing was a lot more fun than I expected, and I learned as much from the students as they learned from me, often even more.
As so often happens, divorce forced a decision. During my two years in Vietnam as a GI, I made a few trips to Bangkok. My first 15 minutes in Bangkok convinced me that I would live there someday. So in 2009, I packed up, moved to Thailand, and haven’t looked back. I have about 10k sqm of property with a nice house I designed. My wife has landscaped the entire thing.

I’m happy to address any IM6 questions, or anything for that matter. For what it’s worth the car cost the equivalent of £31.839.
Cheers
