in case anyone is interested - the document titled "Map update" gives instructions for how to do the update but:
1. the link in the document doesn't work until you got to User manuals and enter your VIN. The link in the document that you can see there does work.
2. The procedure on my FL5 wasn't quite the same as that shown in the document but it is called "Resource Update".
3. The procedure seemed to go OK and there were no error messages but the system still reports the old version of the map data on the about screen.
