MG, a very under estimated brand

Hi,
I have the new 2025 HS PHEV TROPHY this is our third MG, my wife has the MG 4 I had the first version HS PHEV and now I am in the 2025 model,
I am totally satisfied with it it looks and drives beautifully and as for economy I am getting 4.9 mi/kWh and 90 miles on pure electric driving, I haven’t even started the ICE yet, I love it, admittedly I am a gentle driver , light right foot and generally within the speed limit and regen on 2, but I am certainly not on hypermiling. How is everybody else getting on with the PHEVs? jeff

I had one on a 24 hour test drive before purchase and that experience really sold the car to me, I was looking at Audi q3 and Volvo xc40 and after driving the phev it blew me away. I’ve done about 500 miles in my car but I’ve been leaving it on hev as I’ve read that the engine needs to be run in for the first 900 miles, so once I reach that I shall switch to pure electric and get my 3p per mile motoring. Do you know if there’s any way that I can stop the car charging at 80% overnight via the car or the app? I am using a granny charger but have had a proper Ev plug fitted with its own 16amp breaker which is then wired into the consumer unit where there is another breaker.

I am pleased you are enjoying it, its a beautiful car, I think the power management lets you set 80% but the general school of thought is it doesn’t really matter to go to 100% I do ! If you decide to go for a charging point I can thoroughly reccomens the OHME, it fully integrates with Octopus and it works everything out for you. Jeff

I got my nearly new hs PHEV end of June. Managers car with about 4K on the clock. He advised he always just charged to 100%. Apparently the 20%-80% rule only really applies to fast charging. The HS PHEV does not have fast charge so it’s not applicable. Happy to be corrected if this is wrong.

Thanks very much for the feedback. It’s all a learning curve to me so speaking to you guys is great. At the moment I just charge overnight 2 or 3 times a week and that seems to do the trick for us. Going to York in November which is about 200miles so I’ll fully charge the battery in London first and get a bit of cheap travelling for some of the journey.

I did a 550 round trip to Ireland Keith. Was advised to put into HEV mode for longer journeys. Car used battery until I got on to dual carriageway / motorway. Noticed battery depleted until about 40-45 mile battery range left. This meant local country road driving was EV a lot of the time. ICE usually ticking over low revs so guess charging battery rather than powering drive mostly. Only kicked in higher when putting the foot down. Filled petrol at home before leaving. and could have done whole journey but topped up when fuel showed about190 miles range. Had aboit 100 miles to drive. When I got about 40 miles from home ran on EV and ICE kicked in during last 1/2 mile. Reckon spent about £38 petrol. No charging during journey. Note petrol range is calculated based on your driving style so when I filled at home it showed 440 miles petrol range. When I tipped up in Ireland it showed 320 miles petrol range. However, it started climbing when I switched to EV and one month after return home it’s now at 351 petrol range. 😀

Thanks very much for that, Wode. I’ve had mine in EV mode since I posted and I’m delighted with how it’s going, very cheap motoring indeed. That was good to do that length of journey for very little money. I’m actually flying to Dublin this Thursday for 4 nights to see my family. If I’d been going for longer would have happily driven to Holyhead, but I’ll let the plane take the strain this time
