I thought I read, but I can't remember where, that the sunroof was designed so it doesn't let in heat?

Yes, there are 2 layers of sliver (IR reflecting) and it's very effective. In the UK there would be no issues (I'm in the tropics, and it gets warm, but not hot on 34C days).
