This sounds similar to issues on Windows 9/10 PCs when Adobe, Office, and other apps were updating and they grabbed all system resources even though they are supposedly updating in the background. In such cases, you often had to wait minutes before a key press in Word would translate to the character appearing on the screen.

This is not particular to MG. Some useful background reading ... possibly!
Yes but the worrying thing is we don’t have over the air updates so today’s issues were likely to have happened when the car was trying to send data back to an mg server or get data from it. Makes me a bit uncomfortable about what really is being tracked on our MGs and why?

Same in the UK, I thought it was an Android Auto update that had gone wrong.

Android Auto kept lagging and the whole console rebooted itself a few times, but I did enjoy driving down the motorway at 70 with the 360 degree cameras stuck on!

Hi, same here from the UK as well. Only got 1300 miles on it. Was lagging in android auto and normal ui with volume and ac being quite buggy. Also 360 camera stuck on full brightness while driving haha.

There seems to be conflicting info around on this. And there was some sort of news I remember reading on here somewhere (Nov I think) about OTA updates beginning in the new year for the S5

EDIT: Actually, that news may not have been for the S5.

Hi, posted on another page but having the exact same issues on my s5. Just started like 3pm today. Ac, volume, 360 cam and android auto are buggy as anything and slow. Literally debilitates the car its so annoying

I didn't use my car yesterday but I did notice that the app wouldn't connect although it has done this morning (Saturday).

I've just tried the reversing cameras, radio etc. and they are working OK. Being connected to the internet shouldn't affect the way the car works, I wonder if they were testing the OTA?

In Portugal it didn't happen for me at least.

But clearly, car functions should never be impacted by "overload" or failure to communicate to the server.
This might mean:

All available resources were used and this can even be considered a security risk/vulnerability exploit (just read about Porsche on Russia);

There are synchronous calls between our cars and MG cloud, in which the system will have to wait for an answer or timeout before continue to process;

A successful OTA upgrade of a bad version, assuming the new version had some Ui/UX issues that made the system slow. This is, in my opinion, the best and worst at the same time because it means that communication was not the reason, but lack of software/hardware testing with that specific version, which is the worst because it shows that their development teams might lack a good testing environment/flow (which is many times ignored in IT world for some reason) and similar issues might happen again with any other thing.

I hope this get investigated, but my feeling is this is probably going to be ignored and pushed under the rug until the next time it happens.

Known issue that started yesterday. Looks like a server or update glitch. It’s pretty scary how much this actually messes with the car. MG needs to sort this out ASAP before people start turning on the car.

I think I am going to turn off the data option in the car in the hope it stops china servers from doing this again. I was 60 miles from home when it started and with all the odd things going on including a warning that lane keep assist was faulty I really did not enjoy the drive back wondering if the car would suddenly do something odd. This really is a serious security concern if a central computer somewhere can make cars all over the world defective at the press of a button.

This happened to me yesterday, Friday, also.

2 short journeys, each of about 5 miles: first one, no problem; second one, about three hours later, and the screen "closed" and restarted at least three times, and often froze when the restart was partially completed. Made for fun when trying to turn the car off at the end of the journey since I could not initially get to the Power Off tile!

My phone is a Samsung Galaxy A54 5G so a different model to those others are listing.

This has been mentioned in this thread. It appears to be a failed OTA update.
