So I have a very annoying sunroof buffeting problem on my MG3 Hybrid. Even at low speed, if it's completely open it starts drumming and sounds like it's going to rip off. Never had any sunroof problems like this on other cats I owned. As there is no front sunroof dam or pop up cloth screen, I am thinking it's a design issue. What have other found? It's fine if it is used in the back lifted ventilation position. Is there some way to stop the buffeting?

Glen. I think the reason you are not getting any response is that we don't have an option for a sunroof in the UK. On previous owned cars when I have had a sunroof I always had some buffering wind noises. So much so that I would never have a sunroof, as I find them overated.

Yes I suspect your correct. The sunroof is standard equipment in Australia on the top spec Hybrid model, at least on those few delivered to date. I have a solution now, just cracking open the rear window slightly seems to eliminate the buffeting. I can understand the sunroof being not desirable in the UK, just let's in the rain.

Just picked up my MG3 Hybrid Essence and found the same thing. Its horrible and occurs between 40 - 70 kmph which is exactly the speed range where you'd want the sunroof open. Definitely a cheap-arse Chinese design issue. Needs a wind deflector thing to pop up or something when sunroof is full open, like my old BMW had. Seems it's the airflow entering the cavity that the sunroof retracts into. I found it stopped when i closed it about 6 inches or so. Not a great fix. Will have a mighty whinge when i take it back to the dealership for its 1000klm check.
Also feels a little light in the front wheels at times. Another design issue i suispect and possibly due to the extra weight of the EV battery in the rear taking weight off the front end.
Apart from those two things its an awesome little car for the price and is great to drive.

You have a 1000 km check ?

Your dealership will just say it's a chararistic of the car just like the bull s.... For the engine over revving on inclines etc ? Good luck though hopefully can do something maybe wrap the car in cling film 😉
Is it really overrevving though? Or just high revs you're not used to? I had the 2023 MG3 previously and it was gutless up hills and had to be absolutely flogged. Traded it in on this new one because the engine had been worked hard with all the steep hills near where i live. It would rev its guts out just to try to hold speed on hills. This new hybrid is much better on the hills with the electric torque.

Oh yes they definitely have over revving issues hence why the zs hybrid is having a new software update done in your neck of the woods and New Zealand , then the UK . Mg3 will also get the update a car sitting at 4 to 5000 rpm going up a hill is not normal hence why MG has announced the update? if you have a car that doesn't do that your the only person ?

So far its been fine. Nothing worse than the old non hybrid version, in fact much improved. Car is only a few days old so maybe updated already?

Lucky you ? The latest update hasn't been done yet and it's for the zs hybrid first in Australia I had my mg 3 hybrid less than a month and handed it back because the car came to a standstill going up a hill revving at 6000rpm if someone had been behind they would have run into the back of me really safe not , and also because of the seat failure episode and no information regarding the fix the car got handed back , so bought the zs it is slightly better going up hills but it needs improving hence the software updates. Happy motoring 👍

Is this ANOTHER update for over revving or the one that has already been done ?
The update hasn't been done yet it's just getting rolled out in Australia New Zealand now for the mg zs hybrid so won't be happening in the UK till next year. The question has been asked if and when is it getting rolled out for the mg 3 hybrid? I've contacted MG UK but the usual no reply, my opinion both the mgzs and mg3 hybrids should never have been released with this dodgy engine gearbox issues.thats my opinion.

wow thats pretty crazy. Did this happen every time up hill or straight away or ??? Im about to take it for another run up some very steep hills today and i do that about once a week so hopefully it never happens to me. I thought the seat failure was old news and was fixed hence the higher ANCAP rating now?

The high revving happens on every steep hill on the zs hence this new update. The mg3 s are just getting recalled now for the seat fix . I think cars that were built from October onwards have the modifications best to check with your dealership. Ps that's not cars sold in October because they could have been built in August? Shipping times and all that good stuff.

Ok just took it for a long run with many hills and quite a few times it did the over revving thing. Still held speed though and nowhere near as bad as the non-hybrid I traded in for this one. Its a small engine and only hybrid so I guess it will have high revs at times. A larger engine is really the only thing that will fix that because even the extra gears of the combustion engine only version didn't help it on hills.

Yeh I think if it changed gear more accurately there wouldn't be the over revving issues it's like the software between engine and gearbox aren't aligned properly hence why MG has just announced this latest software update, ps I've had many smaller engined cars and they didn't rev themselves senseless going up hills . My car before the zs hybrid was the Toyota Corolla hybrid and it didn't rev anywhere near 4000 rpm going up hills so it's definitely an MG problem. Apart from that the zs and mg3 hybrid were pretty good .
