We have an MG4 and we have solar panels with battery storage. We have cheap rate electricity at night.
During good weather, when we are producing excess electricity, I put my car on charge, but if I don't constantly check it I can end up using grid rather than solar and home battery. Is there a way of setting the car charge to a slow charge? Thanks

What tariff are you on? I am on IOG and export excess solar for 15p and charge the car and house battery at 7p.

I use a granny charger with a variable output and a solar switch on the pilot signal. It works a treat and last month got 680 free miles.

Octopus. We can't export excess to the grid as we have 2 sets of panels, one older set which is feed in tarriff and we can do both feed in and export from the newer ones, if that makes sense!

What EVSE (charge point) do you have?
My Zappi was set up to use excess solar but I have turned up the export threshold now to stop that as I am on SEG.

Best to do it through a smart EVSE like the Zappi as others have said.

Even some granny chargers have the option to vary the current I believe.

If you don't have that there is an option somewhere on the main screen menu (in charging I think - I haven't looked since we first got the car) where you can reduce the AC charging ampage. Don't forget to change it back though before your next night charge!

I also charge via solar with a granny charger. It has variable output which you control via an App. When my production is low in the morning and evening I set it to 6a or maybe 8a. During peak production I ramp it up to max 13a. I also have have a 15kwh battery that takes up the slack when clouds come over. It's so easy to monitor all this via the App 👍 My charger has a schuko plug but there is a UK 3 pin version. : Charger

You can not adjust the amperage in the car or the app on the ZS EV.

We have a similar setup with solar panels, a house battery and then a car charger.

We adjust the charging AMPS using the chargers app instead of the car.

The car will accept the changes by the charger, i can go from 1 phase 6 AMPS and all the way to 3 phase 16A
