MG4 EV (2026+)
Two weeks and three weekends of 2026 MG4 ownership, and here are a few observations and differences.

First the good points.

1. The interior is much lighter, brighter, with better materials.

2. The rear Spoiler is a better design, more rigid and easier to clean, and a bigger brake light.

3. Power-Off is now a lot easier to access and use, just "Swipe - Click - Confirm".

4. The Speed Limiter and Cruise Control are activated and controlled by the left steering wheel controls without having to go into the menus first.

5. It has a better wireless phone charger (position and function).

6. There is less shiny gloss black inside, so there's less chance of fingerprints or scratching the surface.

7. I like the physical controls for the climate control, so much easier to use than fumbling about with the screen to turn the fan up. or the temperature down etc.

8. The bigger screens are much clearer and better laid out.

9. The 360 camera system is massively improved, and when you activate the left or right side view camera you can actually see both wheels on that side.

10. When you indicate left or right you get a ¼ screen camera view pop-up on the main screen instead of the full screen, then just tap the screen to remove it.

11. I don't use Apple Carplay and Android Auto, but it's good that they're now wireless.

12. YouTube, Spotify and Amazon Music all work well (it also has TikTok, but I haven't used it).

13. It has window Global Opening/Closing, and you also have the option to set the windows to close when you lock the car, just in case you have left any open.

14. You can set the tyre pressure display to show the pressures in bar, kpa or psi.

15. The Rear Fog Light switch is in a better place, on the L/H stalk, I didn't mind the old one on the screen, but this is easier to use.

16. The rear lights now come on with the DRLs, not just the front ones, so you're always visible to other drivers .

17. There is a visual display of the battery's health on the charging screen in the form of SOCE.

18. The i-Smart app alerts you if you walk away from the car and haven't locked it.

19. You can now turn the Heated Steering Wheel on with the app, I didn't have this with the previous MG4.

20. When defrosting with the app, the car's lights don't come on like they used to, I never understood why it did that.

A few that could be better.

1. The rear wiper is now a twist switch on the end of the stalk instead of the push button, the push button was easier.

2. There is still no usb in the mirror housing, I don't know why MG don't have this on all new MGs.

3. There's only one usb in the back, it would be nice to have two.

4. The car still has no rear interior light.

Could be better #1 .. that sounds like pretty much every other vehicle I've driven which has a rear wiper. 🤷‍♂️
I got used to the push button on the end of the stalk, and it was easy to activate with just one finger, with the twist switch I have to take my hand off the steering wheel because I have to use a finger and thumb, it's obviously not the end of the world, but the push button was easier to use.

At least I now know why the rear wiper comes on every so often when it's raining, I'm so used to having the windscreen washers as the push button on the end of the wiper stalk

The MG S5 has this, but from what I read the S6 doesn’t.

It’s strange as the interiors of the MG4, MG4 Urban, S5 and S6 all look to be very similar.

With this being the first MG4 that we have owned I cannot comment on the comparison between the first gen and the second gen models. However, one thing which for me that is not so good with the design, is that the back of the car gets so dirty and far more than the front of the car.

That is definitely a 'feature' of both the old and new version.

They are essentially the same externally. The only difference I've noticed is the updated spoiler.

You win.... Wind = "the perceptible natural movement of the air, especially in the form of a current of air blowing from a particular direction."

Mudflaps definitely help a bit with the dirt up the back of the car, and down the sides, I found this out with the previous MG4, so I had mudflaps on the new one within a couple of days. (y)

The spoiler is definitely the only noticeable difference, but in fact the headlights are different as well, they're a slightly darker tint, and the tail lights no longer have SAIC VISION written on them.
