MG4 SE Cut Out when door opens

Just taken delivery of MG4 SE EV. I have a habit of opening the door to look behind me when reverse parking -i.e. car is running when i'm reversing but with the door slightly open.

When i do this with the MG when the door opens it kills the car as i assume it thinks you're getting out? Is there anyway to stop this from happening - i.e. override the auto stop function if you open the door?

Also am i correct in saying that the MG SE doesnt have auto mirror folding option when locking the car

Correct: SE doesn’t have electrically folding mirrors. Auto or non-auto.

I find myself in a similar situation, which I cannot find a way to get around: I want to be able to be out of the car with the car in neutral (and with the parking brake off).

Whenever I want to fully close my garage door, I need to have the car literally two fingers away from the back wall. With previous cars I owned, I would turn off the car and do a final push (pull, in this case) by hand, with the car in neutral. Can't find a way to do that now.

Non-obvious solution ... get out of the passenger side rather than the driver's side?

Will try that. But just as an exercise, as it would be a pain to do it every single day.

Also, I'm pretty sure that as soon as my butt gets off the seat the car goes into Park...

Not in mine it doesn't (as far as I remember) - that only happens when I open the door.

Another option to try ... open the door first, then select N, then get out (of the driver's side) but without doing anything else like using the keyfob. See if that works? If it does then you can simply close the door and lock it (that should engage the parking brake), or to be certain simply lean in and press the P then close and lock the door.

I can open the door while in Reverse.

This is interesting. I occasionally like to park with the door slightly open to see the kerb or a parking bay line. I didn't think it was possible in the MG4, but I've obviously been missing a trick.

Plugging in the drivers seat belt is another way to keep the car from going out of ready mode while the door is open.

Would it be possible to rebuild the back wall of the garage, a 500mm extension or more at around 1800mm high would give you the space and future proof , should you want a longer car in the future. ie MG4 estate. Alternatively a few well placed squeaky soft dog toys glued to the wall ( window open , radio off. )

Ok, I redid the test and now remember what was about it that I couldn't get around: it is not when I get off the seat that is the problem; it is when I remove my foot from the brake pedal - as soon as I do this, the car goes straight into Park (and engages the parking brake).

In other words, I can only have the car in Neutral while my foot is on the brake pedal.

I'm sure there must be a way around this, at least for emergency/towing purposes... I'll see if I can find it in the manual later.

Yep, it worked!

Got out of the car, inserted the seatbelt in the lock, stepped on the brake pedal (from the outside, with the door open), placed it in Neutral and it stayed there, even after removing my foot from the brake pedal.

Just be extra careful not to engage D or R while doing the above... That shouldn't be pretty!

This is also great to know and try in advance as well, for towing or emergency situations.
