They are not too bad, but I'm tempted to plastidip the covers as there is a rubber spacer and the covers didn't actually touch the caliper. So in theory less heat transfer, it will be worth a try because will need to return to original when lease ends.

Update I now have ordered a can of glossy black

Someone will be along shortly to tell you not to use plastidip on the covers due to heat transfer, blah, blah, blah.
But..... unless you're doing trackdays mate, I would put money on it not being a problem for you. 👍

Yea I've read that one, and others, but they all seem to devolve into more of a discussion than a record of owners who actually changed them. I'm out at the moment but perhaps I'll just start a public sheet that let's whoever's interested record what they've done and their feelings about the resulting changes.
Sounds like a really great idea (y)

I did check with them directly a while ago and they said not to use due to heat transfer. However I asked about calipers rather than the covers, so can understand their response. Plus most braking is done by regen anyway and seeing that they dont actually touch the calipers, I thought I would take a chance and it's only £20 so not costing a lot if it doesn't work.

Even specialist high temp caliper paint will burn if you do a track day with it (I know to my cost) so as you rightly say as long as you're not hammering the brakes, your covers will be fine.

I mean, I drive mine quite hard, (occasionally) ((ahem)) and because of the regen (mine's always on max) the actual time "hard on the pedal" is much reduced compared to an ICE vehicle.

As you know I've already had all my wheels off, but didn't remove the covers for a look when I had a chance.
I'd like to see just how ugly the stock brakes are as clearly someone at MG decided they needed covering up.

Or couldn't or wouldn't spend the extra money for a nice Brembo Setup or similar.

(Yes, the car would have been more expensive etc etc) I do get it.
Not a good looking caliper at all, BUT they obviously do the job, which is all that counts. If the X Power didn't come with the Orange (metal) covers, they would definitely be being painted. Personally I think the covers look good. But that's just my opinion. 🙂👍

Here is a French review including some track with the Michelin Pilot Sport 5's 🤩

I now want Michelin Pilot Sport 5 😂 even if this reduces the range and adds a bit more tyre noise 👍

Trust me when I tell you the range has not reduced and the tyre noise has gone down.
Also the grip in the wet when pushing on has significantly improved.
Not managed to lose the back end ........yet!

Edit...to be fair, range is not high on my list of priorities anyway, so I don't make any effort unless I'm planning a day out.

I did see this when it came out.
Luckily, I don't mind reading subtitles 👍🤣

Well here's a quick and dirty version, anyone who's bothered can feel free to modify as appropriate.

MG4 Tire Change Roll Call

If everyone who's actually changed their tires/tyres (pneus?) gives some basic feedback, it could be useful to see for others contemplating the same.

Obviously these will all be subjective responses so grain of salt and all that.

VW, Seat, Skoda, Audi, Mercedes.
The VW cars I think has the same hub diameter. The MB cars do have a bigger hub diameter. But those can be used on the smaller hubs with hub rings. But it is not recommended to use a wheel with bigger hub diameter without those rings, so not completely a direct fit. Also it is worth mentioning that the bolts can differ.

I was going by what Blackcircles and others are quoting 72db to 71db. However how that actually converts on the road is another matter. Will be interested to hear your experience, now that you have taken the plunge.
You will not hear a difference of 1dB.

(Apologies for being late to the party!)

These new Cross Climate 2 tyres have solved the problem not only with regards vibration but also the grip so I can now drive with confidence again. The only thing I would say is that the road noise has very slightly increased as these new tyres are harder than the original ones and you have to make sure you get the pressures spot on.
I had the Michelin Cross climate on the last used car I bought. They were the summer tires for that car, as we usually have two sets of wheels here in Norway. As we use nordic (not continental) winter tyres here, which is suited to the conditions in winter here, there is surely better tires for real winter than the MCC's. But they are a upgrade to the marketed summer tires in UK winter for sure. I would rate a regular summer tire as 1/10 points in winter, MCCs like a 4, cheap nordic winter tyres as a 6, and best nordic winter tyres as a 10/10. I have Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10 nordic studded winter tyres on my Xpower, and they are incredibly good. But the climate they should work in is like -20 degrees C, heavy snow and ice, which differs greatly for most winter days in the UK.

I had continental all season contact 2's (just released) fitted to my ZS EV and the improvement over supplied tyres is very significant, whilst economy appears unaffected. They are excellent for the UK climate. Not sure if I will change the MG4, the existing ones (18", same as the xpower) seem to be performing well so far in the UK winter, although they don't half rumble away.

Tyres wise, my MG5 came with special slippy Bridgestone Ecopia but due to a damaged tyre a pair were swapped for Hankook Ventus Prime 4 which I have found far superior to the Contis.

This topic was started to discuss changing tyres for the purpose of addressing the vibration issue. Can we please keep the weather performance posts in other topics.

I've changed the topic title to make this clearer.

My post, about changing the tires and the resulting impact on the car, of which the vibration issue was just one part, was merged with this one.

Can this excel sheet be stickied to the top of the thread? 🤔

I've copied the link to the start of the first post. Did you want the sheet itself to appear there? I don't know if that's possible, and I'd have to look up how to do it.

I can also make the thread a discussion, so that the first post appears at the top of each page.

If other readers think that it's too intrusive, please speak up. I can also delete the link in the first post, but that seems like only a trivial intrusion.

Nice, that makes it easier to refer back to later. Although it probably needs more visibility to encourage more people to use it?
