General consensus is that it was fixed on cars manufactured UK summer 2024 onwards although I'm unsure if this is definitive. Problem could be that they may be selling stock manufactured before this and then it's a total lottery.

Starting point would be to get the date of manufacture from the Certificate of Conformity (believe me, some salespeople don't even know what this is!) for any car you are offered.

Total bargain at that price if it is a later built car.

I got mine straight off the boat on 19/12/24 certificate says built in July I think. No driving issues and the software seems to be miles ahead of older ones I've sat in, no lag, no dropping android auto and I wouldn't say the LKA or ACC are particularly aggressive.

Only issue I've had is one glitch where in a rush I initially put it into reverse and it kept defaulting to the reverse camera instead of back to android auto, but it's never happened again.

I looked on there for the Service Record for my car. I looked in "Historical maintenance and repair information" using the VIN and it came back with no records. I phoned the dealer and they checked on the system and confirmed the first service details were all there.

Am I looking in the wrong place?
 
As an unlucky new member of the vibe/hum club (with a July 2024 build car) I came up with a good description of what mine does today…

It starts off slowly at about 65 and builds up and then sounds and feels like a petrol or diesel car that’s in too high a gear and needs you to change down. It doesn’t stop again until I go under 45.

That’s exactly what it’s like in mine; like it has an internal combustion engine in too high a gear, begging to be changed down a gear, but at motorway speeds.

It’s going in for the dampers next week but this is so common they surely fit them in the factory anyway? If they don’t work (and I’m not expecting them to) I’ll tell them I want to reject it as I’ll be within 30 days and have given them a chance to fix it.

I don’t want to though as I love the car. I’m hoping that will push them into doing whatever really fixes it even if MG refuse the warranty work required, but with the massive discount I got the dealer probably wouldn’t lose all that much selling it on Pre-reg. I doubt they would take the hit to fix it properly (though I’ll post the registration here incase anyone happens to look here before buying!).

It’s a right shame! The dealer knew I was worried about it before I bought it though so there is a sliver of hope. But it’s almost certainly going to come down to a decision to reject and buy a nearly new Renault Megane e-tech or put up with a car that’s transforms into a diesel car in too high a gear on the motorway 🧐

I’m hopeful the dampers work if it doesn’t already have them. It does seem like a lottery though reading through here. Both having the problem in the first place and the dampers working.

On my car it’s far more noticeable when it has started and you plant the accelerator. The frequency increases under acceleration so it feels like it’s motor or drive shaft related. Wheel balancing problems are in specific ranges (I’ve had them before). It doesn’t happen at all if you plant the accelerator at low speed until you reach the range it starts normally.

I suppose it’s not my problem to solve but it’s more information on the subject.

It's not dampers m8, it's a steering damper purely to try and mask the vibrations.

Many who have had it fitted report it makes the issue worse.

Yeah, I know 🙁 I’m not a mechanic but my much older brother is and I’m very technically minded.

I’ve got a private pilot’s licence and work in the nuclear industry. I’m not saying that to big myself up, but it’s pretty obvious the cause of the problem is not something a steering damper will solve (though I’m hopeful as I don’t want the hassle and want to be wrong!)

It feels very much driveshaft or motor related. Speculation; but if one of those was out of balance and then started resonating it would explain why acceleration makes it worse and it doesn’t stop until under a certain speed.

Steering dampers will just mask the feeling through the steering wheel but I can feel it through the whole car and hear it too. The most expensive problem is a motor out of balance. My guess is the rear motor is different to the other models (since drive mode has no effect and the rear motor is always engaged), it has a common defect and is way too expensive to replace. The factory fix was probably not on the vehicle production line but a change to the motor production line.
 
As so new can you reject for another new X power in its place ( throw the vibe dice)?

As with most things, take it back and ask for a replacement.
Also ask them to swap the tyres , a steering damper will obviously achieve little against the level of vibe and noise you describe as it is thru the whole car.

I wasnt saying it to correct your grammar and I wasn't saying it to be a **** m8, What I was trying to say, was that's its not the shock absorbers.

I called out the driveshafts in September 2023!!

It's on here somewhere.....

Please, if it bothers you reject it.

It may seem a pain now, but at least you won't be where I am (and at least 18 others) with my case pending at specialist car rejection lawyers.

Oh, and when I get my money back, 14K, I will be paying the usage fee to MG 2.1K ish (14.5 ppm) Also the Lawyers fees 2K ish
I should still have a decent deposit towards another one.

One that I will have thoroughly driven before handing over any wedge.

Sorry, I didn’t take what you said the wrong way if it came across like that. I was agreeing with you that I don’t see how dampers can fix it.
