Think ive posted the invoice before but just though is do it again as its not a simple task its quite involved and i would assume as there is no pricing of the parts a costly one as well

Not sure what he’s picked up on but my dealer emailed me this evening.
We’d discussed the below points:
Headlight aim almost undriveable at night
Infotainment connectivity issues (R30)
Filthy windows with scale residue.
But I added I’d now done a long trip and found evidence it’s got the vibes (July 2024 build).
He’s gone from a courtesy car and quick turnaround to “we might need the car for a day or two now”.
Off work this week and I’ve pulled the bike out so the XP wasn’t being used anyway.

I listed the faults politely but I also listed the plus points in the email. Funnily enough I’ve set LKA to low and usually don’t have the time to switch it off, and after about 180 miles of M4 driving I can’t say it bothered me at all. In fact it was less stroppy when changing lanes without indicating (only when slipping back in after passing an HGV - I’m not that rude a driver!) than the 5!
Could the LKA detectors be linked to the speed limit recognition?
The vibes on the XP are akin to when you’re travelling in a Prius (used to ride in them many times a day fetching trains from Old Oak), and the ICE kicks in.

Mine wasn’t too bad before the recall either and was far less aggressive than my SE was. It’s much more gentle when it pulls you back now. I think it is linked as they mentioned something about speed recognition getting an update too.

I turn LKA off in both my cars whenever I drive them. Not because they're particularly strong or dangerous but because it makes the steering feel broken when it jiggles the wheel. I hate that feeling. And in my area you have to drive on or over lines to avoid the appalling potholes and narrowing lanes. I can see it being useful on motorways and long runs on dual carriageways but on our narrow single lane roads it's nothing but a pointless nuisance.

Trouble is all this kit is nanny state stuff. It has to be default due to idiots like the Winnebago cruise driver….
When I first got my MG5 I inadvertently turned on Traffic Jam Assist on an open A-Road, I genuinely thought my track rod was loose. The car had 200 miles on the clock!

The problem is the kit doesn't work as it should, and turning it off is a pain (or used to be numerous clicks)
Fair enough now it seems to behave but it needs a physical button to turn it off.

That’s what I can’t stand about these advanced safety systems. They have to default to on and have to be made so they can’t quickly be turned off but aren’t actually ready yet technologically.

It’s legislation and NCAP requirements being introduced before the technology really exists. I hate LKA and speed warnings but only because they don’t work properly. The update my car has had improved both significantly, especially compared to my SE. LKA doesn’t seem dangerous anymore. It rarely plays pulls at the wheel erroneously and when it does it’s not a massive yank. I don’t blame the manufacturers for this stuff, they would probably rather not have to put it on in the first place. I really admire Renault for sacrificing safety stars by adding a button that turns off things you don’t like in one go.

Original Megane etechs have the same physical buttons for LKA, now Renault have went with a button for all safety systems.

The set up in the Megane is one of the things I like the best about my relative's Megane.

Google operating system is flawless and physical buttons for fan, temp, rear screen, seats steering wheel, LKA, traction control

They keep moving the goal posts and some legislation only applies to cars designed or built after a certain cutoff date. I think (though I’m not sure) cars with a single button to turn LKA off have to be held down for several seconds.

All new cars sold in the EU from a date last year had to have intelligent speed recognition that warns the driver and has an audible alarm with a speed limiter defaulted to on. Cars had to be retrofitted if sold as new! Great Britain has partially followed that legislation but doesn’t require the speed limiter to default on thank god! Northern Ireland has had to follow all of it. Something positive about Brexit at least

Again, it’s just not ready. Mine has the intelligent speed limiter as something you can turn on in MG pilot but the car often gets the limit wrong. It picks up the limit from junctions you are driving past though the sat nav, tells you off, then goes back to the correct limit after a few seconds. If I have ACC on and speed recognition on it brakes then accelerates again. If I forget to turn speed recognition off and ACC off, it erroneously bongs at me. If the speed limiter was defaulted on it would bong at me and erroneously slow down even with ACC off. As it doesn’t work perfectly it just gets switched off rendering it pointless.

Not only that but it likely to frustrate anyone behind you when you suddenly brake for no apparent reason passing a side road down to its speed limit then accelerate back up again a few seconds later.

Frankly the MG4 has a horrible implementation of speed limit recognition. I run Waze on mine, via a bluetooth dongle, and it almost always shows the correct limit. The MG, by comparison, almost always gets it wrong. The Tesla is right 90% of the time, but not as good as Waze.

Funnily enough. I find my X Power pretty much spot on. Just wish, I'd looked at it a bit more, recently.

Probably easier just to ensure better testing, on roads specific to the relevant market, and implementation.

I don’t think the roads I drive on work with LKA, and I’ve never used a system that I liked - apart from ones where you can permanently disable them. The Govt needs to ban permanently on LKA !

LKA is really annoying to me but its one of those systems i forget till it shoves me across the lane for NO DAMN reason then i turn it off. the pull down menu and 1 button update has been a god send to a point ..

Would still prefer a map to steering wheel toggle off instead of having to take my eyes off the road to scroll though any menus ( which by logic isn't safe so it kinda defeats the purpose of being a safety system !! )

As for saved settings it's a safety rating thingy. in order to get its 5 star rating the driver assists HAVE to be on all the time by default !!

thank god there aren't speed alerts and all the other buzzers some other cars have ..

the 2025 MG HS suv i drove annoyed the crap out of me with speed alerts over and over and over ..

That's unlikely to happen. My theory is that we're all guinea pigs for full automation/self driving.

The biggest safety hazard to my daily drive is fumbling with the touchscreen on a hairpin bend to turn off lka when I forget to do it before i take off.
Govt needs to put these ANCAP muppets (or whichever bureaucrats are responsible) in their place. Ban LKA !
