MG4 X Power Vibe/Hum 65 to 75mph

I've recently received my xpower back after having the '6. After-sales suspension solution:' completed. It has not fixed it. I think the magnitude has reduced ever so slightly but is now more detectable at lower speeds.

I have always been able to detect the vibrations from around 60kmh but only because I have felt them at higher speeds and knew what to look for. Now they are more noticeable and well detectable from 80kmh and still present at 110kmh etc.

Still felt through the steering wheel and the body of the car. Can still be heard in some stiuations.

I had the steering wheel dampener installed earlier in the year. 2023 build. Located in Australia.

Car was in the workshop for over a week getting the work done.View attachment 39959
Disappointed for you but this sort of confirms what I’ve already been saying. It doesn’t work! My car theoretically came out of the factory with the steering damper and the elaborate suspension solution and still has the vibration issue.

This is probably why MG UK won’t do it; because it doesn’t always work. And in my case can’t possibly work as it’s already been done. 🙁🤷‍♂️

Out of interest, what was the date of manufacture of your car?

Finally got back from a 5+hr journey home after picking up my 23 reg xpower.

Vibration is there, but very very very mild. I was ‘looking for it’ when I first started driving and was a bit concerned because I could feel ‘something’ and was worried it’d be a nightmare on that long journey.

By the end of it, I totally forgot about it. Just feels like driving on a slightly rougher road or like a rough diesel idle when car is doing 60-75. It is at its worst at 75mph, but even that isn’t an issue for me. The lack of vibration/movement/inertia that you get from a typical ICE car probably means the very quiet and smooth MG4 highlights the minor vibration more than an ICE alternative would.

just for those like me who look at this forum before deciding to get an xpower, unless you get a bad example, the vibration is very minor. I’d say it’s similar to when I had a resonator delete on previously owned ‘fast cars’ - it’s there in the background if you are intentionally feeling/listening for it, but it isn’t intrusive and doesn’t detract from the cars overall performance/quality.

Yes, it’d be nice if it didn’t do it, but it’s a ‘budget’ EV and the rest of the build/engineering quality certainly feels well up to standard. Would I pay an extra £20k+ for a more premium brand that would iron out all vibrations and imperfections? No. For my specific car, I’d maybe be willing to pay £100 to have the vibration removed, anything above that and I’d leave it, it really is that minor.

Worried at first, delighted now I’m home. Very happy I got the car! Used with 10k miles on the clock and costing less than half of the original list price 2 years ago, cannot complain!

Thanks to all those who helped me make the decision!

Basically exactly the same for me too, 23 build. I find mine is only minor... extremely, and only comes in when a full throttle press is done at about 62mph.

Mine's the same. Just a very slight tingle staring around 60-65. I have to be on an unusually smooth road to feel it though, it's usually masked by all the vibration caused by our appalling road surfaces.
Far worse than that is the dodgy OEM tyres. They're ok in the dry but the car squirms all over the place in the wet - really have to be extra careful with the power, just like driving an older high powered car - anyone remember the original 911? Spent more time in the hedgerows than on the roads...

Awesome😎
I am almost peeing myself to find out what my Lease company will want for mine at 24 months, what are they going under the hammer for i wonder?

According to Google AI lowest UK auction prices recently have been £15-£15700k
That would work out about right for them being £18 k on forecourts

Yeh i would give them that for it🤔😂.
If i could get it for 16k plus my lease cost that would be a snip over 22k .
Being realistic i would be happy with 18k for it still makes it around what you could grab a new one for at that time if shopping around.

Motorway auction reserve price is about £15k-£17k at the minute, usually the best indicator from experience. Knock £1-£2k off for part ex/WBAC valuations.

So would you just buy it outright with £18,000 cash ?

Or would you refinance?

Why not just lease another new one (if available on a good lease deal) ?

I really like my one, i cannot fault it and have every intention of keeping it past 2 years one way or another.

Re buying it, i want to get out of the constantly paying for a car cycle, by then i am planning to be winding down my work so am already adjusting to having a lower income in advance of this time.
I want to minimise monthly outgoings, i have the money to buy the car but for sure will weigh this up against keeping the money in savings and drawing on it to keep paying for the car either re finance or lease extend.
All i know now is i want to keep the car for hopefully its lifetime and will try to go down that route via what option is best for me.
I still have my 30kWh Leaf, i got it new on PCP in 2016, paid it off at 3 years old and it has given me another 6 years trouble free running and again i will keep this until it dies, same plan with my X Power.
I am well in to detailing my cars, the Leaf is unblemished all over and looks better than when it was new, again as does the MG.

Short and Sweet this time !!

As discussed previously this was via the Financial Ombudsman.

Quote from @case dismissed on Facebook "MG4 X-Power Vibration Complaints" group :-

Xpower rejected

"Final Decision is now with me
Car is not of Satisfactory quality and the XPower has the "fault" not a "characteristic"
Pay back 50% rentals
Pay back 7k deposit
Pay 8% interest
Return xpower at no cost
End Agreement"

If you can build up a lump sum over time you have all options available:

  • You can buy a car outright (far better value if it is 12-18months old rather than new).
  • You can pick your finance of choice and make payments out of your lump sum while still earning investment income from it.
  • You can finance and spend the saved money on something else!!

mine was the same minor but ive fought for the fix out of principle..

Yes i got the fix and it has been fine in that sense.

Even now the dealer has had my car for over a month waiting to fix the locked diff engine problem..

sadly ive seen some of their terrible back and forth between dealer and MG on my situation ..

I wont be investing in a MG ever again ..

basically a high voltage module blew up and caused the car to lock its diffs and lose reverse ..

dealer waiting on PPE ?????( which i was like WTF ) such as high voltage work boots..

im not kidding MG are like just change this thing all good without suppling the proper PPE to do the job..

The mind boggles at the lack of support MG gives even it dealers here ..

Maybe before we chase down the dealers for dispelling fixes MG as in MG are most likely the problem..

what i have heard is that the IM5 and IM6 are all China got a problem plug it in China will fix it nothing software wise will go though MG everything is done from China ..

What a shame. MG don't seem to have a bloody clue. A perfectly decent motor. Spoiled by a half arsed company.
Doesn't seem to be affecting them though, if the sales are anything to go by.
And that's probably all they are bothered about. 🙄🤪
Thats the catch 22 of some of these cheap Chinese car makers ..

same reason why manufacturing in aus died..

Its all about money the average car in aus starts at 35k and to 80k for a ford ranger which alot of people buy .

so you offer a cheaper built car even if its poorly made or has lemons in it range or faults it still wins..

Lets take MG they sell cheaper cars bad service support etc etc.

They know if they upset a small % of there customer base they dont care because they will sell another 100,000 cars for upsetting maybe 10k of their current car consumers ..

Its a numbers game because of price if they offer cheaper cars people will flock to them
upset maybe 20% but get another 80% who will buy their cars again based purely on price..

Me complaining that i wont buy another MG there is 50k more people that will purchase their next or first MG based off the price !!

Then of that 50k upset 5k but then sell another 50k its win win for having bad service and at times poorly made cars ..
