MG4 X Power Vibe/Hum 65 to 75mph

Is there any consensus on what years have this problem? Will a 2025 if they exist still exhibit the same symptoms?
General consensus seems to be cars manufactured 2024 onwards seem to generate less complaints (although there are still some). Trouble is, they aren't big sellers so often cars registered up to late 2024 can actually still have a manufacture date of 2023.

The Certificate of Conformity will show manufacture date but as mentioned above, it's no guarantee. If you are buying 2nd hand, only way to be sure is to drive it yourself above 66mph and see if you get a 'buzz' through the steering wheel and chassis, before committing to purchase.

I don’t think there is. It’s just pot luck.

The ‘fixes’ are applied at the factory since February last year but they don’t always work. Mine does it mildly now but was terrible at first, and was built after they started being applied at the factory. Someone on here recently had the stage 2 fix done at a dealership and it didn’t work.

So MG UK are still selling Xpowers knowing there is a vibration (that once warranted a Technical Bulletin Fix for it as a Fault) but not telling any prospective new buyers 😡.

There’s an interesting email allegedly from MG UK to a customer on the Facebook Group outlining this decision :-

Is that recent sounds really something that was posted a while ago, UK owner was getting the fix until they (MG) changed their mind

I think it’s old but if true it states there were some high up meetings to come up with the “characteristic “ spiel and stop the Stage 2 fix in that bulletin as we thought.

I was just trying to fill @waspmike in with the history re his post above 👍
They might be right as we know of at least one occasion that it hasn't worked so they wouldn't waste all that money on a fix that won't 100% work, so rather than spend money they just put the line out that it's a characteristic!

It's been said before, nobody knows the long term implications of that vibration, has it really been fixed or hidden on the cars that don't have it!
And the cars that it's getting better on as they do more miles, could it mean there is some premature wearing of a component happening that may be causing it to lessen!

A lot of unknowns with this all made worse by MGs stance

There’s some videos on the Facebook group showing the driveshaft out of balance as it rotates, and also some sort of frequency graphs of the vibration at the 68mph speed 😟. Too technical for me though!!

I wonder how @Freeagain and @Bricktop X PWR are getting on with their group litigation case ? I guess it may be going to court as everything’s gone very quiet.

The driveshaft imbalance sounds the likely issue as when you look that up it states it causes vibration especially at higher speeds.
Also states it can cause premature wearing of the joints.

Saw on an Australian X Power site that an owner had the bushes on the car replaced as he has suffered from the vibration

Driveshaft imbalance really does seem to make sense.

Driveshaft imbalance really does make sense. Especially for mine as once it’s started it doesn’t stop doing it until going at a much lower speed (around 40 mph). It also drifts around and sometimes doesn’t do it at motorway speeds but around 50 mph instead. It also does it under harsh acceleration.

What I don’t get is that if it is the driveshafts, why don’t they just replace them?!

Because they must be run by Aberdonian's

Was just reading an article about the best used EVs under £20k, usual suspects on list, interesting comment in the review of the MG 4 specifically the X Power.

MG4

The MG4 is one of the most compelling affordable used EVs available today. Launched with sharp pricing and strong spec, it’s even better second-hand. A £20,000 budget gets you a nearly new Long Range Trophy with up to 281 miles of range, while the cheaper
Standard Range offers 217 miles. MG’s seven-year warranty adds peace of mind, and the MG4’s modern design and generous space make it practical.

Higher trims include heated seats, a heated wheel and remote preconditioning. The XPower performance version - as quick as a Porsche 911 - is also dipping under £20,000. Known issues are minor: some AC charging errors, flimsy trim and normal motorway vibration on XPower. With low battery degradation and running costs, the MG4 is hard to beat.

Yeah, other reviews have mentioned it as being normal. I suppose going by the definition of the word, it is normal, since most of them do it 😂

It’s also undesirable and unintended so actually a FAULT, going by the definition of that word.

I suppose, on the bright side, anyone buying one used will come to expect to have it as we have had to come tolerate it.

Thing is a used market needs people to buy new cars first (I always buy new), and I’ll never buy an MG again. Nor will anyone I’ve put off!

So far I’ve got 5 people to completely discount buying an MG that were interested...

I've actually persuaded 3 people to buy MG4s after trips and a drive of my car and a 4th is about to put down a deposit. The 3 who bought are very happy with their cars and have recommended to some of their friends & family. Just sayin'.
