MG4 X Power Vibe/Hum 65 to 75mph

Got about 8000 miles on mine now and it’s changed quite a lot. It is barely noticeable at 70+ mph now but starts doing it at 50 and is at its worst at about 55, especially on the sound front, though much more mild than it was around 70 mph when it was brand new.

I’m wondering if anyone has tried to getting this fixed independently beyond wheel balancing and changing tyres?

Unfortunately I’ve had to endure more after sales uselessness from MG and in this instance I know what’s wrong which demonstrates how crap they are.

I’ve got the squeaky brakes problem which others have had and is really bad in reverse. They had it twice in the same day and didn’t fix it and it’s booked in again, from the next day (and I doubt they will fix it this time). Predictably they blamed regen and condescendingly explained “you had it set to level 3 but there is a setting on the screen we have changed it to level 1. We cleaned the brakes and is okay now” 🤣🤬

I asked my brother whom has been a mechanic for over 30 years and is also an MOT tester about it and he said “The rear discs are scored and near side pads aren’t contacting the disc properly, no wonder they are squalling. It needs new discs and pads. If that was in for an MOT I would give it an advisory. A strip down might fix it but probably not and they must know that. Tell them you want them replaced.”

Of course they haven’t even tried to strip them down, they just took it out and slammed on the brakes a few times like I have, which makes it go away for a few hours and then it comes back… WHICH IS WHY I TOOK IT IN UNDER WARRANTY!!!’

Obviously there is more chance angels will fly out of my bottom then MG will actually replace the discs and pads, yet they are relatively cheap components. It’s got me thinking, perhaps the vibration is fixable without reengineering the car…?

For example has anyone tried to have the driveshafts balanced or got them tested for balance and order a replacement?

So basically, the same old, claptrap. 🙄🤪
It’s so frustrating! They are trying to blame me for the noisy brakes because I’m using too much regen even though the car defaults to level 3 and I don’t leave it on that anyway.

The second time on the same day with the same problem they handed me it back, they offered to show me how to change the settings ***! How about fixing the f**king thing!!? WLTP figures are based on regen being on, not that it makes any difference if I turn regen to minimum!

I really like the car, I’m just really disappointed with some aspects. Unlike some people I’m not hell bent against MG even though I probably should be! I’ve recommended the MG4 SE to a friend but she wants me to check it over too.

Has anyone who has the vibes found a difference with replacing tyres?

I know there are a couple of reports on here of people getting an improvement but wondered if generally it can help and if so has it been better over time.

I am going to get my wheels balanced first off and initially check the balance as they came off car to see if any are out but am also considering swapping over to some Michelin Pilot sport 5’s.
It is a lease car so if it goes back i would swap them back to originals of course and keep the Michelins .

Went into dealer on Monday to sort a software update and they were supposed to investigate vibes but did not touch it due to time constraints, being busy and me not wanting to hang about there so will sort it myself as i know they would not do nothing anyway.

Yes got them back up to 41psi and there may be a slight difference, but if so it is subtle.
I am into the last year of my lease now and hope to keep car so i am getting my head into troubleshooting it to see if it is a sensible option.
If not i will get another X power anyway so would have use for the tyres, it is just a case of whether it will be the one i have now, other things like how much they want for it etc may also be relevant😂.

We found a definite improvement when the dealer fitted Michelin Primacy tyres. Swapped to Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 a couple of months ago - fantastic performance tyre but vibrations were back compared the EV spec Primacy's they replaced.

Hmm, interesting and thanks for sharing.

I really didn’t feel any difference between tyre swaps it still did the same thing ..

Once I got the vibe fix that’s when it changed car has been great ( in the sense of no more vibration at all other than road surface change )

Not saying that tyre pressure and better tyres don’t help but with the change of sub frames and bushes that were done on mine tyres ain’t going to solve the issue ..

I wonder if a road force balance ( yes that’s a thing ) might help or it could be a hoop MG want customers to jump through till they give up and shut their mouth ..

I also wonder if there’s that stigma of yeah I can live with but then it just starts to really annoy ppl and ppl start looking for answers and fixes ..

I’m also not sure they sell the MG4 X powers anymore I never see any in dealers anymore..

Base MG4s but no x powers ..

Most ppl buy the base ones here I see them increasing in my area but also a big influx of Teslas and BYD ..

Think my next EV might not be a Chinese one I’m thinking VW maybe
