Wow! When I bought one in 2017 it started at under £30k

You will get a decent discount on it, especially if you use CarWow.

Then there will be dealer incentives & discounts on top of that.

However I usually almost always spec up cars so some of these savings will cut into needing options.

For example, last generation M140i’s went into offer before shape change, there were top trim of Shadow Line Plus for £399 a month with some dealers asking for £399 deposit & some asking for £0 deposit.

That was really good value imo back then.

Worst car I ever had, lots of problems including poor paint, dreadful dealers and was glad to see the back of it.

Shame really as when it worked it was a good drive and this was 1989 when VW was supposed to be excellent.

Looking at it again, inflation since 2017 has been 30%, so this is higher increase than inflation but not a huge amount higher.

I drive a GTI which I bought new in 2013. 130,000km and going strong.

My GTi was £22,000 in 2009, with sun roof, winter pack, metallic paint and some other toys. I fondly imagined that £30,000 was a reasonable sum to lay aside for another one about now. Silly me. But by then I was pretty much set on an EV anyway.

I suspect if the X-Power had been available when I bought my car I'd have gone for it. But in fact my SE SR doesn't feel all that worse than the GTi. I can still pull out and overtake when I want, I can still find myself going too fast on the motorway, and so on. I know on paper it isn't as fast, but the instant torque makes it feel as if it is.

I bought a VW T-Roc R in 2021 and it was almost 40k with a few additions. I didn't like the car at all as I found it uncomfortable and handled like a tea trolley on ice! My old 2009 Golf R32 was so much better and I got the T-Roc as I thought it would be best of both world with dropping the kids off for school then become a boy Racer! Nope! It was quick but always felt like it was going to tip over or chuck you into a ditch!!

The big problem with these big brand (All £40K + with necessary options) performance ICE cars is the £600 in RFL a year!!
