Hi all,

I’ve just taken my MG5 facelift UK (24 reg) in for its first service at an MG garage. The car has only done 5,000 miles (so very low), but as I’ve had it a year, I thought it best to get the service done — mainly for a software check/upgrade and to renew the 12-month MG assistance.

When I collected the car, the dealer said everything passed and is fine. I asked whether it needed any software or map updates, but they said no. I found that a bit strange, especially regarding the maps.

Here are my current versions:

  • MPU Software Version: 1300R12
  • MCU Software Version: 83.3.4.8
  • Navigation Version: 40972-P
  • Map Data Version: HERE_EU_22Q1 202204172242

Does anyone know if these are the latest versions?

Also, as I’m new to EVs (this is my first one), I’m a bit confused about the service record. Is there no log book that gets stamped, like with petrol/diesel cars? All I received was a Health Check, Corrosion Warranty Annual Inspection, and a Maintenance Check Sheet. I understand EVs need much less servicing, but where is the official service record kept — or am I missing something?

Regarding my MG Assistance renewal I assume it just continues? I got no card or anything to say otherwise.

Thanks for your time and sorry for the long post!

Can't help with the version numbers just now but your service record is kept electronically. Sign up to mymg at mg UK web site and you should be able to see it.

Amazing thank you - Didn't know about this I will look now.

I didn't know you could sign up and see your own service records, is that a new thing?

I think the electronic service records are more an MG thing rather than an EV thing, some manufacturers still use a physical book. They should give you a new AA card with a new expiry date, but again some don't, but if you call the MG Assist number they'll be able to confirm for you. As for the service schedule, it's every 15,000 miles OR 12 months, whichever comes first, so you were right to get it done at 12 months to preserve the warranty.

Well I think the maps are outdated. 24Q3_EU_20240829032156_n I beleve this to be the latest

Found this MG Document that has a link to download the latest: Link to MG Map Update

It says All MG5 Versions - That said it could be pre facelift MG5 Versions.

It says that MG will do free updates for 5 years. How can I check if they have been done on my 2021 MG5?

That just gives you the different schedules and an explanation that records are kept digitally by the dealer. There doesn't appear to be an option to sign up or log in and see your own records.

I’ve been doing a bit of digging and found that if I enter my VIN on the MG site, I can download manuals, service manuals, and even access a link to map updates (though I haven’t had any success with the map updates yet).

The interesting part is that the service manual includes a traditional service logbook. MG5 Service Manual.

It makes me wonder why they provide a service manual with a maintenance records section, yet don’t supply a physical one with the car.

I don’t mind things being digital — but I don’t like not having access to the service history. That becomes a real issue if I were to sell the car in the future.

R17 is the latest/last Infotainment version (MPU), though MG is reluctant to let dealers update it to that unless you have an issue. I told them I had issues with with CarPlay crashing. It's a bit more stable after the update.

I've managed to get the maps updated. Although Android Auto is always better, for short journeys I do like using the built-in sat nav, so I’m glad I managed to get that upgraded.

Regarding the car version, both MG and the dealer who carried out the service confirmed that R12 is correct for my car. I do find the whole software update process with MG quite strange, TIt seems the same model can have higher versions than others. I’ve already had to disconnect the 12v battery four times just to get the infotainment system working again, yet apparently it doesn’t need a software upgrade. Even MG can’t tell me what the latest version is; only an approved MG dealer can check after plugging it into their computer. To me, that feels very scammy.
I am digging as I want to know what is the latest version, I also cant belive MG UK dont know.
