MGS5 rear floor (bulge)

A cube of white foam with a cutout inside,
Under the carpet, no purpose implied.
Is it a throne for a hamster to reign?
Or a boat for a pea when it’s caught in the rain?

Could it be glasses for giants at play,
Or a portal to somewhere two inches away?
A pillow for pixies, a cheese with no taste,
A gadget designed to take up some space.

We scratch at our heads and we scratch at our chins,
No clue where this curious object begins.
But isn’t it marvellous, wondrous, sublime—
A cube with no meaning, just passing the time!
 
Dealer rang today battery test are OK, they have found these under the carpet, don't know what they are or what they do as off yet, 1 more is wedged in there but will take a bit of getting out. The carpet was definitely flat before at least I can rest a bit better, but i have no explanation as to what has happened
They look like storage packing pieces that would have been used to support the windscreen or door window glass while in storage. My guess they were not taken off when the glass was fitted, fell in the footwell, and the carpet was installed over the top.
 
Lucky you I’m down in Kent and both dealers I have used have been mediocre at best
 
waiting for mg to get back to dealer to see what the blocks do and if needed
Interesting to hear what and were they belong ?.
I agree with @DBedford they do look like the type of foam protection blocks used on parts in the assembly process.
I did think they maybe used as part of body protection while the shipping process, but how did they end up under the factory carpets ?.
It's puzzling just why somebody would continue installing the carpets over these blocks, without either flagging it up, or removing them.
Then it managed NOT get noticed at the quality assurance stage at the factory.
Finally, missed again at the time of the PDI / valeting stages at the dealership prior to delivery.
 
How did they get left there? maybe the production line is running at full tilt and they just got missed by some harrased worker. No idea if the PDI check(er) would have even looked at the rear carpets closely.
 
Assuming that the blocks were missed by a worker, Google's AI overview suggests that the cars are made in state of the art manufacturing plants using high levels of automation and robotics.
 
I will try to get some better photos tomorrow and what they are made of ,it's not foam it's too hard , I'm 99% sure floor was flat before. we put child seat in and out 2 to 3 times a week , plus we laid the buggy on the rear floor on our trip to to Southampton last month, it's doing my head in we have about 30 different scenarios what they could be

Only speaking for myself here, but I have never heard of this type of thing happening before, in any EV - anybody else ?.
Really curious, like many others here to understand what has caused this catastrophic failure, so early in the battery's life cycle.
I am sure that I speak for many concerned new owners of the S5 that situation needs an urgent investigation to discover the exact cause of the problem.
With dealers also being made aware of this situation.
We need to keep our fingers tightly crossed that ( at the moment ) this is a very isolated incident.
Could it be a design fault which could affect many many cars ?.
This would be a complete disaster for both the owners and the manufacturer of course.
Let’s really hope that it IS an isolated incident, with a really obvious cause and explanation from the manufacturer !.
Far too early to speculate here of course, but this definitely was not expected or in anyway normal.
DON’t panick! It’s the same battery pack as the MG4 and has been in use for over 3 years now.
This looks like an isolated/rare occurrence, certainly the only one I’ve seen heard of so far. It’s also possible it’s due to an external cause and not the battery itself that caused the problem.
