Recurring motor fault with MGS5

Hey guys.

Another Aussie here, with an MG S5 Essence 62.

Got the dreaded Motor fault message yesterday, just as it's ticked over to 10000km. Same symptoms as everyone above.

My local dealer can't see it till Monday, but are confident it'll be ready to pickup by 3pm the same day! Ha!

I decided to plug in our Autel scan tool to do a scan (I work in an Independent workshop), and found a few fault codes that seem pertinent to the issue:

I'll do some digging, and see if I can find some info for the above codes.

Don't have a lot of faith in the dealer or MG Australia, so we'll see what they come back with.

Has anyone on here had this fault fully resolved yet?

Andrew

Bloody hell, pleased I don't work as a modern motor mechanic, what happened to oil grease and spanners 😂 😢 👀

Ok, problem happened again for me, and I'm taking to the MG North Shore Sydney on Monday. The first time, as I've mentioned, happened while the car was static and had been parked for 20 days. The second and third times it happened while I was driving, the last one (2 days ago) when I was starting to drive across the Harbour Bridge in rush hour (thankfully, so traffic was slower). I'll share all the info that you folks are sharing here with the folks at the dealership to get to a solution soon.

which dealership are you talking to? Mine is Heartland, and I would love to put them in contact with yours, as I'm having the same issues.

Please keep us updated. Just wondering why Monday? I would have taken it there straight away😮‍💨
Cue, even If I take it today, they won't touch it before Monday... I don't know if this is the case with all the MG dealers around the country, but the one closest to home is insanely busy (or inefficient, who knows)

Same for us. Rang on Thursday with the motor fault. Booked in for Monday.

I suspect it's due to the lack of skilled techs working at these dealers. Often in dealerships they are stacked with apprentices and mechanics with minimal experience, but only a couple with decent diagnostic abilities. Probably even fewer with MG EV diagnostic knowledge.

Update on our MG S5 motor fault.

Went to the dealer 8.30am on Monday, and before even looking at it told us it would be ready by 3pm (much optimism!)

Annoyingly it didn't fault on the drive to the dealer, or while it was with them, so it seems they just cleared the fault codes and "owner to monitor", so guessing the fault will reappear sooner or later.

Oh well, guessing I'll be visiting the dealer again soon!

That was exactly what happened to me the first time that I took it to the dealership. And now the problem is happening again. I'll update next week, most probably with a similar output.

Intermittent faults are a nightmare, fault codes just point in a direction, very detailed knowledge of what's in that direction is needed to predict what could have caused the fault code. It could mean hours of work pulling things apart to get to the bottom of it. Dealers just aren't equipped to deal with this.
As it's happening to a few people, it must be a design problem, MG really should be dealing with this. Is it happening in other countries or only here in Australia? That could be a clue for a start.

As someone has suggested(another MG discussion place), it would be helpful if we can document the range of VIN numbers and manufacture date to see how widespread this issue is.

That's a great point. I would assume they will be from the same batch, as they got to Australia more or less at the same time (within the last 6 months of 2025).

@Andy998 and @spicyau, maybe we should talk to MG together and point out a systemic problem.
