My 2025 mgs5 with just 1600 miles . The rear passenger floor has raised considerable when you compare it to the drivers side rear, it's not longer flat, parked it on the road outside my house just incase it's the battery, straight to dealer in morning, please check your rear floor

Update car at dealer, full courtesy car same colour same specification waiting for assessment, they think it's the battery, if it is I will be rejecting the car and want a replacement

Yes I think a replacement car would be the best/only option to be honest, I reckon the cost of a new battery, shipping, fitting, and any repairs to the car itself, would probably cost as much as a new car anyway.

A bit frightening that you got no BMS warning on the dash for what sounds like an expanded cell pack. Hopefully it's a one off and we don't start seeing more on this 3rd generation battery as they call it.

No warnings at all ,only noticed when taking grandchild's seat out . It was also on charge at time , very scary when you think what could happen

Wow…….. Never seen that one coming !.
Only speaking for myself here, but I have never heard of this type of thing happening before, in any EV - anybody else ?.
Really curious, like many others here to understand what has caused this catastrophic failure, so early in the battery's life cycle.
I am sure that I speak for many concerned new owners of the S5 that situation needs an urgent investigation to discover the exact cause of the problem.
With dealers also being made aware of this situation.
We need to keep our fingers tightly crossed that ( at the moment ) this is a very isolated incident.
Could it be a design fault which could affect many many cars ?.
This would be a complete disaster for both the owners and the manufacturer of course.
Let’s really hope that it IS an isolated incident, with a really obvious cause and explanation from the manufacturer !.
Far too early to speculate here of course, but this definitely was not expected or in anyway normal.

Soon as I get confirmation I will post , can't really see what else it could be

Thank you, it’s a very strange and worrying situation alright.
Let’s sincerely hope and pray there is simple explanation / cause here for ALL parties concerned 🤞.
I have a feeling that when the problem has been escalated with MG and the photos have been studied, they may want the car transported down to Longbridge for further investigations to take place.
I believe MG have team down there ?.

I am going to fantasise that some Chinese minimum wage employee has dropped something metallic (somewhere between a spanner and a shard) during the manufacture of that battery and short circuiting has caused it to blow almost immediately.

If there were a systematic problem, we would know by now.

Dealer rang today battery test are OK, they have found these under the carpet, don't know what they are or what they do as off yet, 1 more is wedged in there but will take a bit of getting out. The carpet was definitely flat before at least I can rest a bit better, but i have no explanation as to what has happened

Thanks for sharing and you must be pleased it isn't anything too serious. They look like some kind of spacer block, maybe they should have come out after something was fitted and were forgotten?

Anyway, enjoy getting the car back soon

I am glad to hear that the problem was quickly found and rectified.
Also, like other fellow S5 owners I suspect, relieved to hear that it was nothing more serious !.
I have to say that I am really puzzled just how and why, these blocks were not removed prior to the carpets getting fitted in the factory ??.
Also, how did this not get picked up when conducting the PDI or valeting prior to delivery ?.
Another one of life’s great mysteries that we will never get an answer to 🤷🏻.
The dealer will have surely uploaded these pictures onto MG Customer Services I hope, in order for them to send out a message to other dealers and some feedback to the factory ?.
