Hi I’ve just bought the MG S5 and had it 24 hours! I like the normal driving mode with strong regenerative braking. But each time I restart the car it defaults to normal/low. Can I set it to remember what I like? Also the radio stays on until I lock the car. Is this normal? It means I can’t leave it unlocked if I’m just popping in somewhere. Thanks

I’ve had mine for 48 hours and done just over 500 miles, and this is my main niggle. The regen settings don’t seem to be “sticky”.

Don't if it is the same on. the MGS5 but on mine if press the right steering wheel joystick it stops and starts the radio.

The car stays on until you lock it - you can force power off by dragging down the touchscreen from the top (like you would a phone) and you get a set of “quick” buttons, one of which is power off. Another handy one on there is tailgate open/close. The car will reset to low regen on each start - a quick workaround is to assign one of the steering wheel “star” shortcut buttons to regen settings and you can cycle thru them with that. Current regen is displayed in a multi colour square on the driver display (defaults to 1).

As for the music playing, there is no on or off switch so powering off from the touch screen is the only option and that too does t shut off the music. Either you press pause button or lock the car. Quit annoying actually.

You can press the right stick on the steering wheel - this toggles sound on/off.

If you want the radio or any music to stop playing with the car unlocked just press the pause button. If you actually want the car to power down different systems you will have to use the method described in reply 10 above.

Sadly for certain regulations a lot of the systems have to reset as they do not know who the next driver will be or have to be on by default to achieve certain ratings. This is why you can set up your favourite settings and switch to them after turning the car on.

Sure - but I don't see why this couldn't include regen and drive mode settings.

On my MG5, I found the defaults sensible (comfort, regen 2) and they gave a good balance with plenty of power available if you needed it. The MGS5 defaults feel more like the MG5's ECO mode - and regan 1) i.e. not very responsive.

I suppose there will always be a section of owners that the default policy coincidentally suits but that's all it is, coincidence. You can please 100% of your customers if you allow them to choose the default.

Had my MGS5 for three weeks now and I like the fact that the radio switching off is a clear indicator that I have locked the car, together with the wingmirrors swivelling.

Glancing at the mirrors is also the way I check whether the car is locked or not.
