Love the way the automated voice commentary reads MG as milligram![]()
Watched it on mute as hard at work, the software on the screen looked more like the mg4 software rather than what comes with the IM cars, will be interesting to see how it performs as there are still "quirks" with the S5Nice to see good improvements here on top of the MGS5.... now we need MG's focus to shift to after sales and improving software and they will finally be a match for European makes.
I believe the MGS5 and MGS6 software is an evolution of the MG4 software, running on better hardware and with improvements. The IMs run something entirely different AFAICS.Watched it on mute as hard at work, the software on the screen looked more like the mg4 software rather than what comes with the IM cars, will be interesting to see how it performs as there are still "quirks" with the S5
I agree with @tsedge but my focus has turned away from the IM range for various reasons and focused on the S6, hoping it will be even better ironed out than it's predecessors. The price ranges don't overlap with the IM6 and it is quite a different offering in terms of the architecture (400/800V), battery size, charging speed, interior, range and tech.
You could say the top-of-the-range is only £4k less than the entry level IM6, but thats 2wd vs 4wd and quite a different offering.
So the list pricing makes sense to me, although it will be interesting to see if discounting ends up keeping, widening or narrowing that gap.
Yes, this is what I was told at Everything Electric.I believe the MGS5 and MGS6 software is an evolution of the MG4 software, running on better hardware and with improvements. The IMs run something entirely different AFAICS.
The luxury car tax could harm some sales of the 6 as MG is perceived a s a budget brand at the moment.IMs are a different league compared. But the S6 looks a serious contender for the mid SUV market.
The pricing is really good too.
As my wife commended yesterday the mid spec is only 1k more expensive than the BYD atto3 (her car) with much better interior space, good front boot (Atto has none), massive boot compared and equivalent interior quality (at least visually).
If priced aggressively it will do a lot of damage to other brands.

IM cars will not be harmed by it in my opinion as they are pitched as a stand-alone premium brand
People would look for a contribution anyway, the paying £600 a year for ved is another matter completely and the luxury car tax threshold for EVs needs looked at.True but there are ways around it. An MG contribution on a finance deal for example can easily absorb the car tax cost.
The luxury car tax was introduced in 2017 at £40,000. Following the BoE's own calculator, with inflation it should now be £54,000.People would look for a contribution anyway, the wholes paying £600 a year for ved is another matter completely and the luxury car tax threshold for EVs needs looked at.
It definitely needs looked at, I am happy paying £195 VED, I see no reason now why EVs shouldn't.The luxury car tax was introduced in 2017 at £40,000. Following the BoE's own calculator, with inflation it should now be £54,000.
I believe it's the retail price which determines the tax band and as I read it, whatever you manage to get in the way of discount, makes no difference to the Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) paid, known as the Expensive Car Supplement, if it's over the threshold at full retail it's £620 instead of £195. I believe Nik meant that the dealer contribution can cover the extra VED, not that it will take you under the threshold.I believe it's the retail price which determines the tax band and as I read it, whatever you manage to get in the way of discount, makes no difference to the Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) paid, known as the Expensive Car Supplement, if it's over the threshold at full retail it's £620 instead of £195. Somebody will know for sure!
I'm sure you are right @tsedge, it needs to be a reasonabley healthy discount as with my S5 to tempt some to pay the £620 each year.I believe Nik meant that the dealer contribution can cover the extra VED, not that it will take you under the threshold.
