My MGS5 Trophy arrived at the dealership late yesterday so hoping to take delivery on Tuesday, it’s a in Piccadilly Blue and will be my first full EV replacing a MG ZS Executive. Very impressed by the quality feel of the car when I took a test drive, dealer offered a very fair px on the ZS so I took the plunge.

Have you managed to get insurance yet? I have been trying for the past week. MG only released the cars ID number on Wednesday. I have posted a detailed explanation this morning on the forum.
I have had a MGS5 waiting to collect but 15 insurance companies didn’t have it listed. Two gave me a quote on the MG5 not the S5. WATCH OUT. Regards Bob

I’m currently insured with Tesco Insurance, initially although it was listed I had problems getting a price online but apparently they were having system problems. Spoke to their customer service and it was no problem getting a confirmed price, they don’t charge an admin fee if you make changes online but agreed if I had to phone to action the change the £25 fee would be waived.
I did speak to my previous insurer LV and they said if it’s not on their online drop down list of models they can’t quote over the phone either, not very helpful!
It is a problem with a new model I suppose, but Tesco’s were very helpful when I spoke to them.

Thanks for coming back. Yes I had a similar result from Tesco and LV. LV still not listed on there systems. I did get a price / quote from Tesco yesterday Saturday. When I asked if they would send me a copy of the cover in a PDF so I could check it, as some time there quote was on a MG5. That’s why I asked of a copy first. The only way I could see a detailed copy was to purchase it then the copy would be sent. I agreed to that, she then had to read the policy out to me, answering all the questions to confirm. At the end she pushed the buttons and it came back unable to complete. All very odd this. I’ve had people at SAGA head office trying to resolve it.
I’ve had people at MG press office and sales team trying to resolve it, that’s Birmingham H/Q.
Looks like you’re having the same as me. MG didn’t release the code numbers for these three models until Wednesday this past week. I’ve been trying to collect my car all week.
Good luck and thanks for your response. Had one back from Miles with the three ABI codes also earlier today. But this I already had. Bob.

Interesting, I’ve a provisional date to pick the car up on Thursday afternoon which will be confirmed on Monday when the workshop is open. So I’ll be able to make the change then, fingers crossed that it will work out fine. Did have the conversation with Tesco about it being an S5 not a 5 and was assured that they had it right, I’ve done an online quote since to check the figures I was given and it was definitely quoting an S5.

Yes Tesco listed MGS5 Trophy 5 door 2025 against the quoted figure. However when I accepted the quoted price, she then had to ask all the questions that I had completed online. Then when she got to the end, pressed the button to accept and normally that’s when you pay, and a copy is then sent.
It refused cover and wouldn’t say the reason. I asked why and she said she can’t investigate.
So was it the car or was it me, she couldn’t find out. We have never experienced this before. On another day, the policy turned out to be on a MG 5 when checked. Come back will you Riocca if you achieve cover. Thanks Bob

Dealer confirmed hand over for Thursday so I used Tesco’s online change of vehicle link, took only a few minutes to complete the process with no problem.
Premium was a fair bit higher but not unexpected given that it’s a more expensive and powerful car, compulsory excess also increased by £100.
Paperwork was in my account immediately and the insurance schedule showed the correct vehicle.

I'm expecting my new car this week and had the same issues. They wanted to cover me for MG5 and had a job convincing them it wasnt the same thing. AA came out tops for me and most other insurers recognised the new model.

We've got ours ordered for delivery in July, hopefully a painless swap over with the insurance by then with the systems being able to see it, and essentially the same car as the outgoing MG4 won't increase premiums (we hope)

Update on insurance cover for my MG S5. NINE Days trying to get this resolved, have a car waiting for me to pickup. Who have I got involved I hear you say, from my dealer Caffyns Ashford, up to the press office at Head Office Birmingham.

LV who I have my MG4 Trophy Long range insured with, still not listed, Saga not listed, Compare the Market put you to there specialist broker Howden. Tesco comes up from several search sites, but once you complete the web site questions, they come back unable to complete cover refused.
SUGGESTED ring BIBA (British Insurance Broker Association) complete all the forms, very helpful, came back quoting me over £2000.
Go Compare, unable to quote go to there specialist people, A-Plan who is Howden again.

We have never experienced not being able to get cover for our cars. Yes we are both 73 and both have substantial no claims bonuses but just having to wait, until more companies list the MG S5 and actually cover it, not just quote on it, and then don’t complete in the end.

I began to think it was me , so I tried to get cover on a MG ZS SE Long range with 1 mile on it. Well I could get quotes for that in the normal way. Fully Comprehensive cover with 7000 miles a year. My garage Caffyns said they have been contacted by other dealers asking are they having problems with customers getting insurance.

Looking like I’m having to pull out of this, don’t won’t that to happen, I want this model, it answers and resolves my problems with the MG4, but been at it almost a week and talked to over 12 insurance companies. GET YOUR INSURANCE SORTED BEFORE BUYING A MG S5.

A VERY FRUSTRATED MG OWNER. Bob.
