MGS5 EV Trophy Long Range test drive

Go for it @Loveclose, to give you buying leverage, I paid £24125 (cash) for a brand new, pre delivery "no mileage" S5 Trophy in Silver.
Probably won't get that kind of deal with finance.
I did have a short test drive, but have read every possible professional review, they are the guys who drive plenty of cars and well qualified to review the S5.
My nearly 2 years old MG4 is being bounced back to the finance company, their final balloon payment to keep it is well over £3 grand & possible nearer to £4k more than it's currently worth.
Pick up the new S5 after our return to UK from holiday, provisionally 16th September.
Be interested to know how you get on.
Job done!
Car ordered!
Trophy in Picadilly Blue.
Deal bettered the parameters I had set for myself, but in a nutshell, the dealership have negotiated with MG some extra funding to off-set the negative equity. I had two offers….a 0% finance with the vehicle priced at 32k or a 6.9% package with the vehicle priced at 24k.
With the amount of deposit I put down being the same for both deals, it worked out cheaper by more than a grand to take the 24k price. Loan amount ended up less, and monthly repayments only £13 more per month than currently paying for the MG4.

Car will be with me by the end of the month, brand new and it isn’t pre-registered. Happy days!

A bit more acceleration info.
MG S5 Long Range 0-60 and acceleration in miles per hour
0-10 mph0.9 s
0-20 mph1.6 s
0-30 mph2.3 s
0-40 mph3.1 s
0-50 mph4.3 s
0-60 mph5.9 s
0-70 mph8.4 s
0-80 mph11.9 s
0-90 mph15.4 s
Amazingly sprightly for an Suv, but as I mentioned earlier, that's probably in Sport mode, whereas most of us won't leave it in sport mode most of the time, I certainly won't, wife doesn't like negative "G" 😂😂

At the dealership today, I did ask about range and throttle response.
Comfort mode…..throttle response is cut by 20% to reflect comfort driving.
Normal mode has a better throttle response with no impact on range - same as Comfort mode. So it appears that the throttle alone is tailored -20% in Comfort mode.

Also was advised that 1-pedal mode driving is a little smoother than the MG4 and really helps range.

That's a brilliant deal @Loveclose, not sure how it's happening, but SAIC, the MG parent company is Chinese State owned, so it maybe trying to outdo the competition, who knows at our level?

I took delivery of my new S5 Trophy this week and am very pleased so far. My concerns regarding throttle response now put to bed. In Sport mode the response and power is excellent! Had a few problems driving back with radio, sat nav and constant reminders that “the speed limit is 70mph” all talking at once! It was like having two wives in the car both talking together at the same time! I’m sure a more detailed look at the settings should sort that out. Not sure how to unbind or disconnect the MG4 from iSMART and reconnect to the S5. Anyone any ideas?

Apparently there are certain settings if set to off stil give a warning, I read the way to overcome the audible warnings is tu mute the volume, let me know if it works!

I can't wait to be home from hols in Portugal and pick up the new car, lots of fun ahead especially fitting the new dash cam, which my neighbor took delivery of on Thursday.

I’m quite certain that MG are aware of the negative equity issues, but I think it’s also an attempt to get the S5 out there on the roads. Relevant also is that the level of finance support from MG is only available for cars registered this month for the new ‘75 plate.

And yes, I’m pleased with the deal. I have a new wagon with a much nicer interior and more room in the back with a price that suits me. I agree….MG are still out manoeuvring Europe hugely. MG claim that they are now the no.2 best seller of electric vehicles behind Tesla. Pricing combined with improved MG quality must be the reason.

Just hoping the S5 will be as reliable as my MG4 which never let me down!

A somewhat parallel experience - we both have new wagons to come home to post holiday!

Will be interesting to compare notes…..

My MG4 hasn't missed a beat either, it must be older MGs which has given the brand a poor reliability record.
I was hoping to keep it and give it to our younger daughter, but not at the price I'd have to pay.

Open the iSmart app. At the top right tap the two arrows after the model's name which should bring up the Vehicle Management screen. Tap anywhere in the blue square with the vehicle details and the unbind option will appear. From memory you will need your account's PIN.

On the MGS5 the QR code for binding is on the user screen.

Many on this forum may well have already seen this article from electrifying.com, one of my favorite motoring review websites, but for many who haven't seen it, it gives an insight into how MG is making life easier through innovation.
I hope you find it interesting!
