Ncap fail for mg3 hybrid

The government body dvsa will force MG to do a recall if deemed unsafe, MG can say what they want if they fail to act dvsa will force a mandatory recall, that's how it works in the UK .

Point is DVSA shouldn't need to get involved and force anything, MG should do the right thing after that failure.

Pre fix cars will be worth a fraction of what they should be worth and it could impact insurance if they do nothing

It's not only the seat mechanism in the report the drivers airbag didn't inflate sufficiently and the test dummies head hit the steering wheel so basically is the car safe to drive mine was registered in April so it's un modified but what puzzles me if NCAP tested the MG3 when they was originally bought into the country why didn't the fault show up ive only had the car for 5 months but the wife has read the report and wants me to get rid of it or not to drive it till it's been modified no other dealer will want it so I could lose a vast amount of money on it, so a car i bought as a retirement present could be. Worthless

I think the air bag did inflate correctly but because the seat mechanism caused the seat to twist the crash dummies head didn't hit the air bag at the correct angle me thinks ? Me personally I think there will be a recall, but there is a lot of cars to recall. What we don't want is for dvsa to issue unsafe to drive immediately, because the car will be off the road .

I agree we don't want the cars off the road but it's still a catastrophic failure and MG seem to think that modifying new cars by October is a sufficient outcome you would think MG wouldn't like the bad publicity and would start notifying owners as soon as possible and what they are going to do about it

From what I've read, it was only the offset crash test that failed.
All the other tests of the other cars, because they don't only test one car, didn't fail !

I think it was because it passed in all the other safety features that are fitted. Which gave it the 4 stars, thats why ncap the body that tests the cars are reviewing their scoring system.

Yes you are correct it did pass the other tests but unfortunately it failed on one ,which is serious for safety. See what MG UK comes up with

I think it didn't fail in the other tests because they weren't testing that part of the car , that part had already been tested, also I think they would check that the seat was locked into it's position before the test they have been doing the tests since the mid nineties, unfortunately this MG is the only car to ever fail on that seat mechanism in the history of the NCAP organisation so MG will have to do a fix hopefully. Because IAM not happy just bought the mg3 hybrid 3 weeks ago .

Got mine six weeks ago. I'm not in the UK. I spoke to my dealer this afternoon and he'd heard nothing, he was searching on the internet as we spoke, then told me to wait, it's all so fresh that no-one knows anything yet.

MG asked the same question about the NCAP testing whether the seat was locked in position according to the Autocar report NCAP informed MG that the seats are checked before testing begins since April I have had minor problems with interior fittings coming loose but I wasn't expecting to read the seat mountings could break in an accident I'm going to contact my local dealership tomorrow and ask their advice

I believe the dummy's bonce hit the wheel instead.

As far is believe the mechanism twisted so the seat wasn't in the straight ahead position when it impacted the bollard, that's why the crash dummy didn't hit the air bag head on , so it sounds to me that the metal frame mechanism isn't strong enough? Also that the test was only done at 30 mph for full frontal impact. . I spoke to my dealership earlier and they said were in the dark and were awaiting MG UK updating them? Will ask tomorrow again as I've got warranty software check for gearbox not operating correctly,

Just returned from my dealership according to them there hasn't been any update from MG regarding the seat problem? But according to dvsa a fix doesn't happen immediately could be weeks down the line?

I emailed MG customer care today asking their opinion and what they are going to do about it up to yet I haven't received a response

I wouldn't expect anything to happen with this for several weeks (if at all), there will be much discussion at MG Head Office about what to do and how to do it, and if they go ahead with a repair/recall. Then there's the logistics manufacturing new/modified parts, getting them to the Dealers and contacting all the owners with affected cars. I'd put money on early 2026.

Standard MG UK response, it would appear owners will be left with defective cars and who is going to want a second hand pre fix car.
