Ncap fail for mg3 hybrid

Standard MG UK response, it would appear owners will be left with defective cars and who is going to want a second hand pre fix car.

MG UK are a joke see their responses regards the x power vibes and the numerous issues with early MG 4's
MGs response has certainly knocked my confidence in MG and my MG3, ive owned various MGs from the MG6 original MG3 two ZSs and and an HS, so I've gave MG a lot of money over the years, at the present time do i keep it and wait to see what MG does, try to trade it in but I've got a feeling other dealerships won't want it, the wife doesn't want to go out in it in case of an accident.

I think with MG saying that improvements are being implemented on October cars is them admitting there is a fault it's a lot easier doing the upgrades in the manufacturing process than doing it in a dealership with perhaps with only two or four technicians who still have to do all the servicing etc and then deal with the Recall?, so cars made before October will have to be fixed but it will take a while because it's not just the UK it's all the other countries as well I would imagine.? That's what I think but I don't work for MG 😁

Just been on Auto Trader the dealership where I purchased mine from in wolverhampton is advertising a new MG 3 Trophy in white for £ 16995 and other dealers around Birmingham for around £18000 hope this isn't due to the NCAP review

It's pretty much the same with the X Power vibe/hum fault, they will not admit it's a fault and have described it as a characteristic, later cars would appear to have been modified in the factory as they don't have the fault.

This has resulted in a group legal case against MG because they won't admit the fault and recall/repair the earlier cars.

They have previous

I think customers would have a case through the consumer rights act 2015, if MG don't fix cars previous to October 2025 as the car would be deemed not fit for purpose? Perhaps someone on the forum with more legal knowledge could answer this ?

I've have spoken to my car insurance company who have said they are monitoring the situation because there is still a 4 star NCAP rating on the car the insurance will stay the same but if a recall isn't carried out insurance ratings will have to change due to the seriousness of the failure

It may be worth a read through the X Power vibe thread to get a taste of MG UK's attitude, many owners have tried rejection and failed, using the consumer rights act, hence the group legal case

Had a quick read regarding the X power a bit of a crap situation regarding the vibration situation hopefully the customers will win their case . The thing with the mg3 is a different situation it failed part of the euro ncap safety test you can't talk your way out of safety so MG will have to fix the problem, unfortunately what I gather regarding the x power is vibration. Nothing to do with safety so MG don't have the safety bodies investigating them for the vibration thing, unlike the mg3 failure. IAM not a lawyer that's just my opinion?

A mandatory recall - I like the sound of that. Anybody clever enough to start up a petition for us '24 MG3s???
I think you have to give MG and the different safety organisations time to sort it out it's not a quick fix for a Recall could take weeks , obviously if MG try and worm their way out then it's a different story??

I have contacted the dealership where I purchased the car from 5 months ago by email asking their advice about the situation but I presume they will be in the dark as well, they are going to get the service department to call me on Monday the 15th, in the email I've asked if my car is safe to drive and if MG are liaising with the dealerships, I don't think for one minute they will commit themselves on my first question, just a thought if the passenger side of the car received the same impact would the passenger seat twist.

Regarding the passenger seat or rear seats, according to the NCAP result they were unable to test other seats because of the drivers seat fail . My dealership told me they were in the dark and hadn't had any update from MG corporate, that was yesterday when I was at the dealership.

Obviously this is a problem that needs fixing, and MG need to get it sorted, but let's remember this is a possible chance of the seat mechanism failing during a front end collision, so it's not something that will fail, or cause an accident under normal driving conditions.

I bought my MG3 Hybrid on 28th March 2025. This puts me (just) within the 6 month window for rejecting the vehicle based on safety grounds as is being described here and elsewhere. If the dealer/MG cannot/will not rectify the fault then I am entitled to a full refund of the purchase price minus an agreed sum based on mileage and condition - As new in my case with 800 miles on the clock. Anyone else purchase in similar timeframe?

Yes that's totally correct all safe unless you're unfortunate to be in an accident 👍

Hi the Forrest dweller I purchased mine on the 17th of April which makes it coming up to 5 months the car now as 2500 miles on the clock intresting I didn't know you could reject the car within 6 months for safety reasons

But in an accident is where you want you car to perform 100%.

My Dad had a relatively minor rear end shunt driving his F88 Micra on the motorway.

The driver's seat came completely away from the floor of the car.

Luckily, he wasn't seriously injured.

But it completely put him off M-way driving for the rest of his days.
