It would appear not.

Euro NCAP said it had never witnessed a failure of this kind in its 28 years of crash testing.

"MG has promised to tweak the airbag in October, Euro NCAP said. However, the seat and airbag changes won't be applied to 3s that have already been delivered to customers since the model's launch last year"
But it also says that MG are still investigating. I would expect a retrofit recall for existing 3s in due course. It is far easier and quicker to make a factory change than to set up a recall programme - that takes time.

(Ah - this is an old thread. Oops. Glad to see things are being sorted out.)

I received a letter from MG New Zealand yesterday headed "URGENT VEHICLE SAFETY RECALL"
It said there are 1207 MG3s in NZ affected. I rang dealer where I bought car and have booked it in for Monday to make modifications. They said it will take between 30 min and 1 hr to complete. I will update on Monday to report what was done.

I received my vehicle recall letter for seat fix this morning, booked in with my dealer for mid December.
At least they are starting to get the work down, they had no option though would have been a massive own goal if they hadn't bothered

Praise again for Richmond MG (Guildford). Got my letter re recall on 24th Nov. Called them on 25th. Booked in for 4th Dec. I mentioned having to wait for the job to be done. Workshop manager called me last night after 1800 hrs and assured me the job would be done within an hour. He explained that they are obviously very busy but if I would like the car cleaned etc it might take an extra half hour (declined) Can't be bad, and well done for a quick and personal service. Note: Had car for 17 months now, very happy with it, and long may it continue. It was clocking 70.6 MPG yesterday!

I've just received a recall letter from MG Motor UK about the drivers seat latch mechanism. I phoned my local dealer Unity, in Coventry UK and got through straight away. I'm booked in for Friday 16th January 2026, and the service department said it should take less than an hour to fix, so I'm pleased.
I'll post when it's done 👍

Had a 'phone call from my dealership Manager yesterday (Tuesday) asking if I had received the recall letter yet. I advised that I have heard nothing yet. He advised that MG were sending out recall batches three thousand at a time (I think he said 3K). He stated that as they already had the required parts in stock, I would be contacted today to arrange an appointment. Sure enough, within minutes of each other today I received the recall letter and a 'phone call! All now booked in for the end of next week. My dealers have been good throughout so kudos to them. Of course the fact that I was ready to reject the car might have something to do with it!

Here is the link mentioned to save you searching for it. What is worrying is that MG clearly state if you already own a car, tough! Future ones won't have this dangerous failure in design.
I’ve just received a recall letter for mine purchased September.

Just had the letter also but don't own the car anymore, the fix as I understand is a pretty expensive job hence the 1 hour labour. It consists a roll of gorilla tape extra strong, and two cable ties and the jobs a good un. MG likes to do the job correct 🤪🤪🛞

Recall done. Informed new seat bracket fitted + curtesy health check. FOC. Approx 45 mins total at Richmond MG Guilford. Pleasantly surprised to find them in a new premises next door with all the models displayed in the showroom, including a bright yellow cyberster. Really liked the IM5!

As the previous owner of a new MG3, I haven't got a letter yet, probably won't now.

That sounds like a decent MG Dealer @Countjagular, must be one of the better ones. (y)

I’ve booked mine in and they said they would need at least 4 hours, so they’re giving me a courtesy car. Unfortunately it’s not until January, mainly because they can only do one a day and I’m away for two weeks over the festive period.

That's surprising. Mine's booked into Unity MG Coventry in January, and they told me I can wait, as it will take less than an hour.

Not all Dealers are the same, but often their timings depend on how they operate and manage the day's work, many Dealers will only offer you a morning or afternoon slot, so even though a job may only take an hour, you'll need to leave it with them for half a day.
