TBH this is not a new thing really, remember when the “new kid in town” was the crazy stop start function ?.
Intended to save you fuel

Almost all manufacturers adopted a system that enabled the stop / start system each time you fired up the engine.
If you wanted OFF you had to go into the settings every single time.
The only car that I know that has a physical button on the dash, that you can to turn it off and it will then stay off, is a Fiat 500.
Well, it is on my wife’s 2016 model.
It is STILL on the same original 12 volt battery.
Only likely because we have had the stop / start function turned OFF from day 1.
