New Video: Most ridiculous arguments against EVs

Cheers for the initial comments. I came back to ask if I should do a shorter edit of it.

I usually watch videos sped up myself, but perhaps I could speed this up slightly as the default as I do speak slowly. Don't know how to do that but maybe it is possible.

On reflection I suppose I'm speaking at length on each topic for the benefit of those who don't know much about EVs (apart from half-rumours picked up), but the overall format is designed to appeal to EV appreciators. Maybe I haven't judged that well. 🤔

I think you need to try it with an EV critic, and see If they are prepared to watch it through.
This forum isn't suitable for testing your purpose.
If you can get it to work, it's a well worthwhile exercise, and kudos to you for trying.
I wish you luck.

Congratulations on trying to combat the fossil fuel powered nonsense.

The quick comparison is a method for shooting down the critics. The EV fire staged for trying different fire fighting methods for EVs by the Victorian fire dept, so much wasted money on using methods that worked on petrol fires, but the simple fire blanket and the fire is contained straight away ...... this makes it better for the environment, the safety of the fire fighters, cost wise and reduces the risk of one vehicle fire turning into a huge inferno .... plus the fire blanket is good for 6 uses ..... a comparison of a diesel truck fire ..... all you can do is attempt to stop the diesel going into a waterway or down a drain, then let the thing burn, you can't put out a diesel fire unless you catch it as it starts .... once the heat is enough, it's self sustaining.

The Chinese battery mandate that EV batteries must not suffer thermal runaway, when will the petroleum industry create fuel that doesn't suffer thermal runaway?

Can you refuel your car from the sun? .... at home? Very low cost or free? Can you plug your house into your ICE car and keep the fridge, CPAP, oxygen concentrator, heating system running? Sure, you could use a generator, but didn't destroy your pollution argument/ When was the last time you read about anyone being overcome by the fumes from an EV being used as an emergency power supply?

The new Na+ EV battery from CATL, uses commonly found materials, last for the equivalent of 500,000 miles and still useable for a house power storage battery after that .... can that be done with the fuel tank, pump and injectors from your ICE powerplant?

What is the manufacturers warranty on your fuel system? 8 to 10yrs? Unlimited miles? What are the comparable service costs over that 10 yrs to maintain any 10 yr warranty? What happens to the used contaminants after your ICE vehicle service?

T1 Terry

Don't forget the average attention span of some seems to have diminished to less than 10 minutes. Short and snappy is the modern way. :)

One approach I liked, it might have been on fully charged, was to imagine we have evs as normal, then try and convince people to have to use ice -
- you have to drive to a petrol station to refuel?
- you have to change gears?
- when you are in traffic or braking you just waste fuel?
- whats that smell?
- graunching starter motor
- you have to run the engine to warm up the cabin & defrost?
- it takes miles for engine to warm-up, and is still less than 30% efficient?
- mining all that cobolt to remove sulphur from oil to avoid acid rain?
- you pay nasty people, who killlots of people & animals, to supply a limited, expensivly refined fuel?
- when diesel catches fire you can't put it out?
- etc

Thanks Terry.

You've listed lots of great arguments. I have made some of those elsewhere, but wasn't aware of the EV fire suppression successes.

Yeah I think Rory Sutherland has done that kind of thing. Absolutely agree.

Need all the strategies.

An early leaf advert was great - imagine all the everyday devices we use around the house were powered with little engines rather than batteries.

I was thinking a bit of mockery of how bad the remaining arguments are would be useful alongside all the usual stuff.

If people feel ridiculous doing things they generally stop doing them.

But there is the problem that people will bed-in and close down and that is what needs to be avoided.

Overall, I think we will inevitably end up with all electric vehicles, just as with everything else where the electric option is the superior product.

The economics of burning fuel vs. charging just don't make sense and people will gradually realise that.

It is just sad that people are missing out (and will make bad economic choices) because they are listening to absolute nonsense.
