Not an MG
considering MG5 @ sub £10k - SR, LR or Facelift for best bang / $

Had a Zoe R135Gt on lease for yrs and loved it, drawnt to MG5 as seems better value and longer warranty

longer warranty
Should be quite a few around at that price now - also Cat-S MG4's or a high-mileage VW ID.4's.

Re warranty, you'll need to find one that has a full service history with no services missed, either on mileage or within 28 days of due date. Finding one at that price with complete history may be a taller task.

Since I am looking for a cheap car and cheap running costs, I need to choose from the MG5s that will work fine with Tesla SCs / just need a s/w update (would probably drive down to Cheevley / wait until he is in the midlands)

Read somewhere that it needs to b 2022 onward...

HI, great choice of car.
I have a SR which can not work on Tesla SC as part needs changing for about £1k.
I bought another 5 this time LR which works great on Tesla SC.

I brought a 2021 sr exclusive for £7500 in September full MG service history 76k on clock
Great car , just some leather damage on drivers seat

Thks guys, yes tempted by some at £7.5k, however would want Tesla SC compatability

Can we nail down precisely which spec and yrs allow Tes SCs?

Eg are non LR 2022 version ok / just need sw or is everyone agreeing it has to be the LR? - Do we know why / what was the £1k hw mentioned above that not in SR but is in LR

The LR pricing encroaches a little on my upper budget and even facelift models (starting at £10.9k)

If I can get a sub 70k mls 5 for sub £8k that works ok with uncle Elon, I should b a happy chap :)

You may already know this but not all Tesla chargers are open to non-Teslas and, something I found out recently, not all Tesla chargers are cheap.
As for compatibility, I think all of the long ranges were updateable (and all of the FL). Some of the standard ranges were also updateable but it depended on the part number of the CCU.
About a year ago, either on here or on facebook, someone posted a technical note from MG that gave the part numbers that were compatible but I haven't been able to find that message since.

Edit: I just found this old post VOTE TESLA SUPERCHARGES with MG5
It still isn't the full details but it might help.

Uncle Elon is charging just 23p / kw locally (guess he figured that he is doing ok now!) hence my desperation to find which MG5 to buy
At this charge rate, I dont even need to charge at home :)

That's a really good price - almost as good as European prices. There are a few Tesla chargers in the North West that are 72p. I have no idea why there is such a wide range.

Long Range models are compatible, they just need a software update on the EVCC module only.

Standard range depends on the physical EVCC module in the car. Info on those here (expect to pay £1000+ for a dealer replacement of this):
