News on delivery of first Batch of IM5

With a new car, it is hard to get a good insurance price as you really need to look 21 days ahead for best prices, but you typically can't because you need the registration and that's not available typically until just before you get the car. Insurers squeeze last-minuters because they can.

This often means paying more than you ideally would in the first year.
Yes, I was sceptical about getting a good price as some insurers wanted over 1000. But on contacting Churchill - my current insurer for my old PHEV Prius, they only wanted another £300 extra on top of the £330. So not bad.

Hi, yes I test drive one last Monday and was told 4 months to order....so I asked can I buy the demo model (only been there two weeks & 300 miles)? And they said yes. Luckily it is the middle option long range. I wanted blue but black will do! Got quite a few reductions plus 11k on PX for my 6 yr old PHEV Prius! So a good price. Pick her up tomorrow! I'll let you know how it goes.
A bit nerve wracking but the wee beastie is home. It'll take a while to get to grips with the "no knobs" (except me 😎) controls. It's a bit odd configuring the air vents on the screen & the start up demonic animation does give it a Knight Rider feel. The car looks amazing & the dealer went a bit mad with a red cover reveal & noticeboard with our names on. Still, it was the first one they'd sold & the first in Pembrokeshire!

We have Adelaide city MG doing a presentation with an IM5 and an MG5 at tomorrow nights Australian Electric Vehicle Association Adelaide branch meeting. Looking forward to checking them out and see what is better than the MG4 51 ......

Sounds like it has worked out well!

Jack Scarlett in his live review was praising the 'two fingers' system for climate control changes.

Swiping anywhere on the screen with two fingers can change the fan speed and temperature, so you don't have to look hard at it and do anything fiddly.

Yes, that does work. Haven't tried any of the self park stuff. Apparently it will reverse 50m, remembering the route you took. Good if you meet a tractor !

@KnightRider, it does look rather cool and manacing in black.....does it have those travelling red lights on the front!!
I was impressed by the audio system when I sat in one at Everything Electric.
So while you're figuring out all the touch controls, get it in the audio demo mode, watch on the wide too screen and turn up the volume, listen to that detail and feel the bass drops.

Went for a ride in an IM6 performance pack ........ But for AUD$80,000, that's as close as I'll get to driving one
The acceleration is really "take your breath away" quick, 0 - 100km/h (62mph) quoted as 2.9 secs .... and I can believe it too, but all in a car with plush leather interior and ultra smooth air bag ride.
Such a big heavy vehicle, kerb weight 2400kg, so with 3 proper sized adults, add at least another 300kgs, no wheel spin, just all 4 wheels grabbed the bitumen and away it went .... incredible for the money ..... I'd love to go for a run in a Lucid Saphire, 0-60 mph in 1.77 secs and 8.9sec 1/4 mile ...... but they are more than 3 times the price and not yet built in right hand drive, so probably 4 times the money if they did ever reach Aust .....

Hi, I couldn't find the audio demo mode but the audio is pretty good - 20 speakers plus lots of equaliser control....
I found that if you toggle the right hand wheel, you can get lots of displays - including a g-force meter!

@KnightRider does the IM5 have the noise cancelling speakers all around the roof to cancel out any road noise? I found that sort of strange in the IM6, but I guess it wouldn't take long to get the feel of it ..... maybe my million $$ hearing aids were picking up the sound they were generating and that was the cause of the strange effect ......

Tbh Terry, I don't know. There's no facility to switch them on or off, that I've seen, so far. I only just found out about the rotating display by moving the right hand roller to the left or right. This changes the info on the main screen - odometer, trip counter and oddly - g-force meter. Although the car tells me off if I look at it!
The car is extremely quiet inside. Reminds me of traveling on those fast trains - TGB or AVE.
