So unfortunately I christened my front passenger wheel on a kerb on the weekend 😞

Thought I'd take it to a suspension shop with good reviews as it felt like the suspension was a bit more jittery/boat-like than normal.

They said no major damage but want to do front wheel balance and install camber pins to help with a wheel alignment. He said most new cars don't have camber pins but should. Does this sound right or am I being taken for a ride?

I'd never heard of camber pins. 🤷‍♂️

Haha, not sure if it's because I'm getting local search results, but the first one is actually the franchise that I went to.

I think (one of?) the circled bolts are the new camber pins. Can anyone take a photo of theirs to see what the difference is?

I must say the car drives a lot better now. After hitting the kerb I was getting vibrations around 80km/h. That's gone now, along with the swaying after driving over uneven road. It hasn't fixed the vibes at 100km/h, but I wasn't expecting it to.

The shop explained that the new camber pins also allowed for some camber adjustment. It is more negative at the front, so actually it has helped to improve the understeer.

Maybe you can ask the same shop to look into the vibes that seem common on this model? They might be able to analyse it fairly quickly being a chassis/steering/suspension specialist.

Yeah I explained what was happening to these cars and he said its not their area of expertise. He's seen it happen with GWM's and they can't solve the issue. He rattled off the usual suspects, drive shaft, tyres etc.

You might have stumbled upon, the fix for the vibration issue. Smack one of the front wheels against the kerb. 😉

Only kidding by the way, please don't. 🙂
