I have had the car a couple weeks now and had this problem occur on 5 separate occasions so far. I’m stationary with the car in drive and auto handbrake on (usually at traffic lights). Lights change and when I press the accelerator there is no drive. At the same time a warning “fasten seat belt” comes up on the screen. The problem clears with a few seconds and drive comes back on. Can envisage someone running up might tail when this is happening. As well as this it appears that changes to MG Custom are not being saved which is really annoying. Car is booked into the dealer next week. Thought I’d post in case anyone else was experiencing the same issues.

To the forum. Hope you get it sorted, soon. 🙂👍

Hi guys. Yes hoping it’s only a seat belt buckle issue. Turned the volume down as suggested in another thread so no more annoying excessive speed reminder. Honestly doing 33 in a 30 and constant chirping was getting on my goat.
Slight wee issues aside loving the car.

Turn off speed alerts in the car settings and in the satnav settings to stop the audible warnings.

Hope your belt buckle issue is a simple fix.

I thought I saw a tolerance screen for the speed alerts, it was set at 100%, 110% would give you a 10% tolerance I guess, just another way of muting it but still telling you off for being spirited….?

I didn't want to post this because I was only 99% sure, but I have now tested it, and my car drives perfectly well without my seatbelt on.

That's an age thing

Oh sorry 🫢 Wee as in small 🤣
Could be both 😆

Funny you should say that. I tried drive without seatbelt on and it worked fine albeit it was at slow speed in the car park.
Oh well just need to wait and see what if anything the garage turns up on Tuesday.

Can you jiggle the seatbelt around in the socket and see if the no seatbelt graphic appears in the driver's display.

Either it is a fault in one of the seatbelt connectors OR the car is imagining someone is sitting where they are not in one of the seats (the graphic may show which one), so it is a seat sensor problem.

Faults like this can be hard to reproduce so anything you can do and report back to your garage would help.

I have a question on this subject, can anybody please help ?.
We have only had our MGS5 for two days now and the dealer set up the custom screen from the preferences I was able to take a stab at on the delivery handover.
It is very useful that the car had the ability to save / store the customer settings for sure.
However, the car will default back to the factory settings IF the custom
Mode is not set by the driver.
I am fine with that set up, but on a couple of occasions I have set off driving and then realised that I did not swipe down the screen in the head unit and pressed the custom button.
So, here is my understanding so far :-
You enter the car and put your bum
on the seat,
This must trigger a pressure switch / sensor, that then sends a signal to cars brain to
to commence the booting process.
You then press the footbrake and the car reports the green “READY” signal, select “D or R”’and your off you go !.
My question is this ;-
What is the correct procedure regarding saving your newly chosen preferences ?.
I understand that you enter the car and avoid pressing the brake pedal, in order to prevent the car fully booting into the ready mode.
How do I retain / save these choices for the next time when you drive the car next ?.

I think you are over thinking!

Get in, put on your seatbelt. Foot on brake and go into D or R and go, just like in any other car.

When convenient (there's no rush) swipe down and touch MG Pilot and Confirm. (Don't press the MGP button too long, or it will reset to default.)

The worst that will happen if you wait to press MGP is that you will get an annoying chime for something you don't care about.

After a week of driving, go and look again at your MGP settings, as you may use your experience to review your initial choices.

Thanks.
So, with the car booted and ready to drive, press the “car” symbol on the bottom of the screen, make your choice of what you want ON or OFF from the menu, then press the “confirm” button to save what you have chosen.
These are then stored and saved for the next trip, correct ?.
Then when you return to the car, you boot up to ready mode, then swipe down from the top of the screen and press the MGP button to enable your previously saved personal choices each and every time prior to setting off ?.
I guess if you forget, it defaults back to the factory settings then ?.
Bit of a faff that tbh.
If you forget to preset, can it still be done on the move or do you have to wait until your next trip - surely not ?.
Thank for the help 👍.
It’s a big difference between this model and the ZS EV that’s for sure, in a good way though !.

I still think that you are overthinking!

You don't have to press the car button at the bottom, for a start. Just swipe down from the top right and touch the MGP button and then confirm.

Only if you ever want to change anything do you need to make your selection, then hold down the MGP button for a few seconds to save it.

TimothyN is right there, you can go in via the car menu but the swipe down option is quicker, basically swipe, press, confirm. I keep forgetting to do it before I set off so just as well it's simple to do.

If you forget, can you change it on the go or do you have to wait until you restart again ?.
