No drive on MGS5

Fault has reappeared. I noticed this time that power was available, but the handbrake wouldn't release. Same message about seatbelt, but also android auto disconnected. I am sure last time this happened I also had a message about low phone battery. So, again, I wonder if my phone is interfering with something?

I'd be surprised if it was.

Happened to my partner for the first time today at traffic lights today, again. She had to put the car in neutral and back into drive to clear fault. Are the traffic lights infra red sensor beams blocking the camera and the car thinks that it cannot move forward?....just a thought.

I am now convinced that this problem is due to the brakes temporarily sticking when manually using the electronic handbrake and then not immediately releasing when pressing the accelerator pedal. The seatbelt warning is misleading as the fault can be cleared by putting the car into park and back into drive thus resetting the system. After 'cleaning' the discs with some heavy breaking the issue has gone away.

I had the tech guy out from the finance company. As i expected the fault did not occur when we took the car out on test. When he put the code reader on the car he found a fault with the brake switch sensor. He said he did not believe that this would have caused the problem. I have subsequently spoken to a friend of mine would is a garage owner. He believes the brake switch sensor fault may be the issue. I'm going to run the car down to him so he put put the reader on it. If the fault is still showing i will book the car in to my local MG dealer. As for the fault it is still occurring now and again. As always there is no rhyme or reason to when this happens.

Brake switch fault may be registering due to brakes sticking? Try cleaning them will some heavy braking.....put the car in snow mode to turn off regen braking when 'cleaning' discs.

I have had the no drive/seatbelt problem a few times. The solution for me is to use the handbrake (or auto hold) and not the P (park) mode while stopped.

It seems like you're just using auto hold, which is odd. I've never had it (so far) while using auto hold.

I've been using the handbrake manually by physically lifting the handbrake button and this is when the problem has occurred.I agree that the problem doesn't seem to appear using auto hold which engages just the brakes and not the handbrake....not my preferred option.

New car picked up on Friday, and I had this issue at a set of lights yesterday. Moving to neutral and then going back to drive seemed to cure it, but this may be coincidence as I was trying other things for several seconds before hand.

Going for a drive afterwards and stopping for 5 mins with the handbrake engaged didn't cause the problem to re-occur.

WIfe warned, just in case it happens again!
