Hi all,
The heater in my MG5 LR became noisy about a month ago. To cut a long story short my local MG dealer, from whom I bought the car new, have been appalling and they've not even looked at it yet to tell me if it's something MG will fix under warranty. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar issue or has experience of what MG will cover.

The reason I ask is that I can take it to alternate dealer, but it's a 1 1/2 hour round trip and they want £60 to look at it if they decide it's not covered by the warranty.

The symptoms are the the heating works but on the minimum fan speed setting it sounds like it used to at full speed. Turning the speed up it's even noisier, to the point that i have to turn the radio up to hear it. If I turn the fan off I can hear it wind down very quickly and it squeaks as it comes to a stop. I'm 99% certain it's a faulty bearing.

Any thoughts?
Thanks.

I had the same problem with my MG5 Excite LR 71 plate provided by Cazoo subscription last March. Had to be taken to dealer in Basildon to be examined (waited 4 weeks for appointment). Confirmed it was bearing in the fan/motor and required replacement under warranty. Part ordered and fitted 2 weeks later, 1 day job. Glad it's sorted now, as you said it was noisy.?

Thanks for the prompt responses. In light of what's been said, it's booked in with my local main dealer for next week, so I'll keep that appointment and if they're as inept as last time I'll book it in with the more distant workshop.

Hi. I've written a detailed review of my experience so far on Google reviews and don't want to post names here as my question was genuinely related to the fault rather than berating the dealership.
Suffice to say this will be my last MG. After a year of ownership it's clear they cut corners to get to the price point they have and with my dealership experience they're well and truly off my wishlist.

Berating the dealership, or praising them is absolutely fine here. It helps others to know where the good and bad are.
In fact there is a whole sub forum for this here, maybe check it out and see what others have said about them.

UK MG Dealer Discussions

If you feel your comments are good enough for Google reviews then surely they're good enough for people who are actually owners or prospective owners of MGs. :)

I'm sure you are grateful for the information you have learned here from other forum members.

In general I absolutely agree with you but I was talking with a mate about a local pub/restaurant l;ast night, which he said was fantastic but I have only been to twice, and one of those was a poor experience which will probably mean I'd likely never visit again (except now I probably will!).

The problems might well have been due to staff shortages, or newly trained waiting staff, or some going on in their life which impacted their ability to work properly but it crossed my mind then how it can be misleading to judge on one visit alone.

I always treat reviews with some caution, and look for patterns rather than just one good or bad experience. And of course one man's meat is another man's poison.

As an aside, another site I moderated on for a while wasn't happy with naming and shaming as they couldn't establish whether action could be taken against anyone in the event of an unfair review, so naming companies in reviews was generally a no-no.
