Am I the only one who regrets the fact that posts now only refer to the poster having an “MG4”? I found the version info really helpful in connection with whatever was being discussed. O venerable Admin and Mods, for this forum anyway, might it not be possible to revert to what we had?

Yeah just got the story - 14:00 to 15:00 free power. Of course I’ll be away with the car so I’ll perhaps reset the immersion heater to heat water then. I might leave the power bank on a timer / WiFi socket to fill that up. Not much to fill the washing machine with but I’ll leave that timed. I don’t have a dishwasher as that’s a waste of time on my own. Ah - I could leave the toothbrush to recharge

It's quite complicated and if I hadn't seen some discussion on Twitter I'd have completely misunderstood the offer (I'm on IOG). My first reaction was to say forget it, all these offers do is destroy my solar export. But since my weather forecast for that hour is thick black clouds and heavy rain, it might be worth leaving the car plugged in. It's spare change though.

Well for me the car is on 85% so I can get it full-ish for free.

I've emptied the home battery so I will fill that up as well. So I get paid for another battery cycle because I've already cycled it once today.

Maybe it is only around a quid's worth of electricity overall, but it is shifting the use to a very low carbon time when renewable electricity production would otherwise be curtailed.

Some would say that if I'm filling up overnight then it is technically using gas power because that is the marginal generator that has to work harder when I plug in.

When curtailment is avoided you know for a fact that it is both financially and environmentally beneficial.

It just occurred to me I could switch around my lunch and dinner and have the oven + microwave on this afternoon instead and have uncooked meal for dinner. Will consider doing that if I'm hungry enough!

I switched on smart charging about eleven this morning, just asking for 20% by 5.30 am, and the app has been telling me that it's "preparing my juice" since then. We're now half way through the free hour and the car hasn't had any charge. I can't see that I did anything wrong, so maybe they just decided not to give me anything. Presumably I get some sort of credit for leaving the car sitting ready to dump some surplus power into if they had wanted to?

It's not a nice day here at all, a lot of cloud and intermittent heavy rain, so the grid is hardly going to be awash with solar as far as I can see.

I'm thinking, maybe there's simply no surplus to get rid of in Scotland so nobody in Scotland will get anything during the hour. Be interesting to see if anyone has.

They switched my charger on for the hour, in fact up to 4pm. But I've disconnected as I am already over 80% and don't need the extra charge. I just did it to see what happened.

I plugged mine in this morning and set the Octopus app to add 45%, it started at 12:00 and says it will finish at 17:00.
