Hey

Waiting like most for my ZS EV to arrive. Having lost my old ODB2 I am looking at buying a new one.

Any recommendation on a sensibly priced ODB2 Bluetooth dongle?

Many thanks

I’ve tried these two with iOS and an MG5LR - can’t guarantee they’ll with the the ZS but don’t see why not - the first one works with ABRP fine. Both worked with Car Scanner on iOS.

Returned the 2nd one before ABRP integration was working.

Hi Biffo, am very curious what an OBD2 reader will show on an electric car, so what can you see when you interrogate your MG5 ?

Car Scanner will show battery SOC (not exactly the same as dashboard display due to top & bottom buffers) and SOH. Also shows temperature of battery pack, voltage & current (same values shown in dash). I don’t think the MG gets quite as much data as some other brands

Via ABRP, you can see information such as consumption during a drive. But also allows dynamic charger planning. Allegedly.

Lots of pics added - some of the values read by Car Scanner don’t seem to mean much A guess they’re not interpreting the values correctly. Think some more dedicated EV apps that run on Android might do a better job - forum mentions some.

thanks for this. would you recommend one over the other?

This is the one I've been using with iOS ABRP on MG5LR for past 3 months with no issues I can think of. Can't guarantee it's the best for ZS but it does what it need to for me

Amazon product ASIN B08BPC179W
My dongle arrived today. I have ABRP installed but cannot see how you use a dongle with it? You are talking about the ABRP map and charging all right ?

I got a vgate Bluetooth LE adaptor, which works fine with ABRP, but I can’t get Car Scanner to read anything from the car. It connects to the adaptor, but goes through all the protocols without success. I’m on iOS.

I worked it out :) Google was my friend.
The SOC shown in ABRP isn’t 100% accurate compared to the dashboard - it’s interpreting the OBD value which leaves around a 5% buffer at top and bottom. I submitted an initial translation formula that was okay but limited by data I had - I’ve given them a more accurate one now which should appear at some stage.

Drop the developer a message - they got back to me pretty quick when something wasn’t right with MG5. Also, make sure you’re not connected to ABRP when trying to connect to Car Scanner too - pretty sure that won’t work. I had the VGate one working fine.

Thanks, will do. I was trying with Car Scanner before I tried ABRP, so that wasn’t the issue.

Did you upgrade to the latest firmware? 4.1.10?

Edit: checked release notes and not much change. I have both adapters to test on the 25th.
