So had my new mobility MG ZS auto SE and somehow the dealership was keen for me to sign for 3 years without letting me test drive it first. With the over reving on a hill is doing my head in as never had it with my previous Toyota Corolla hybrid..OMG what have I done as got no owners manual either and told to download 136 pages from the MG Internet.. A4 paper and ink for my printer I don't think so and question I would like to ask is on the drivers screen behind steering wheel on the bottom is a small two toned box with a number 2 inside it, what's that as never changes as thought it was the 3 speed gearbox.

Firstly.

In Hindsight, (which is obviously a marvellous thing, you should have test drove it first, sod what the dealer said)
Hope you can get to like your new motor, but if you can't, you can easily change a MoBo car, for a different one. My sister got an automatic car and hated it, so swopped it for manual. It was no problem. Hope it doesn't come to that. Good luck. 🙂👍

The number 2 in the box isn’t the what gear your car is in but the regenerative number .
When you take you foot off the accelerator pedal your car puts electrical charge back into the battery and the number on the dash is the rating of regen 1 less 2 normal and 3 high.
Hope that helps

The MG ZS SE Hybrid..great car and very spacey inside and the dashboard is big enough so you don't strain your eyes. Comfort isn't bad although the fr9nt headrests take a little gett8ng used to but for me I can slide in and off the seat when getting in and out. I've also noticed the MG cars are getting more popular on the roads.

Agreed but if we go way back to the British car industry like Leyland for example you never got air con or many other standard gadgets like we have say in the MG because you had to pay a small fortune for extras and this is what did MG and Rover and Austin to name a few.

Umm, I will disagree with that, I had MG's Rovers and Austins from when I passed my test until it went bust, all the cars were the same as the competition, and in the majority of cases were better equipped than the competition, as well as, in the main better priced, I see more cars from the 90's from MGR than I do equivalent Fords or Vauxhalls, just look at how many cars attend the Pride of Longbridge every year.

As for a small fortune, nah, again, any extra's were priced to be competitive against the competition.

The over revving issues, is really not an issue, when it does that, I just take my foot off the accelerator just for a millisecond, and the revs go down, but when you have a car like this the battery has to charge up somehow.

True it’s not an issue. I’ve found out it depends how much you’ve got in the battery. I’ve gone up inclines and the car has gone up 3/4 and the engine kicks in and the next day the same incline but the car goes up on the battery only. Also I don’t excellerate when going up an incline I keep my foot on the pedal in the same position, the car has got enough power (196 BHP) to take you up an incline. This works on my ZS Hybrid + and my wife’s ZS Hybrid +.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO BUY A MANUAL - they are on the MG APP... free !
Yer but hard to read on the App with small print etc. A paper copy is easier to flip through.

When I got my MGZS Hybrid + here in Timaru New Zealand, I downloaded the manual (all 136 odd pages) and the local dealer was only to happy to print ALL pages for me on A4 at no cost. I then got them spiral bound at the local stationery store for minimal cost, so now have a full copy of the manual. On saying that, NOT ALL functions are described or included.

But again the over reving is a concern. I have had the revs go up OVER 5000 RPM at times and just easing off the accelerator is not a solution, as this slows down the forward motion. Even on a slight incline the revs can go up to 3-4000 RPM. MG need to get this sorted. Someone stated that the battery needs to charge somehow, but there should be ample charging time on NORMAL road running.

BUT I still love the car.

Mine is the same. tried overtaking a car yesterday on the flat and had to pull back as revs went over 5000 and car was not getting anywhere. Mine sticks at 2000 revs quite often on the flat for a few miles and then all I get 32mpg so that shows the ICE on its own is not as efficient as MG says it is. My overall mpg before the PD052 update was 64 and that was for 2 months in the winter with heating on. now with no heating and no air con and much warmer temperatures its down to 54 with all on similar routes and driving style. I will be writing to MG again as they have told the dealer this is all normal but i dread to think what is going to happen when the temperatures drop and I have the heating on.
