I've realized, as winter about to start in my area, my car keep petrol engine on for heating of the interior space, I feel like rather freezing just to save some petrol :)

The engine at starts or without moving a car has 1400rpm, consuming more than a normal petrol engine which usually has 800rpm at standby.

What I'm curious at most how other users experience with the automatic gearchange on petrol engine. As my experience around 80km/h (50mph) it changes to secound gear, so basically its going in "first gear" till that speedlimit.

Can you please share your experiences?

Also driving on highway at a speed of 130km/h (80mph) my consumtion is around 8l/100km (30mpg).

Hi in winter time the hybrid will use engine more not just mg most ice hybrid as we all know cold weather will deplete battery quicker so engine will be on more to recharge battery, also for some reason the electronics of the engine gearbox will hold the gearbox in gear longer till the gearbox oil heats up , hence the oil is thicker when cold so the brain is telling the gearbox to stay in specific gear till a certain temperature, yes one of those characteristics mg has haven't come across it on any other automatic gearbox. I hope that helps? A way to eliminate the gearbox problem is run the car at slower speeds till warms up and then when hitting the highway it should change gears no problem? That's just my opinion though.

Yes, I also noticed that in this winter time, engine is idleing at 1400 rpm most of the time, even when the battery is 100%. And it is only 5-10 degrees celsius.
It seams like to much. In the city I cant get under 6-7l/100km on shorter to medium runs.

You will probably find if you have heated seats etc on heating above 22 degrees EV won't kick in as much , my previous Toyota hybrid didn't like everything on it would stay on engine power more during winter months it's the ice hybrid thing IAM afraid. Spring summer autumn will be different will be in ev more . Hence fuel consumption will be higher in colder times hope this helps you a bit ?

Yes, I understand that. Still little bit dissapointed. Got HS Hybrid+ month ago and didn't expirianced anything from all that reviews that were recorded during summer time. I would say that car is runnig petrol engine 95% of time.
And as 1400 rpm on idle I can feel vibrations from the engine, and for sure it is not quiet.
But, still happy with my purchase.....

It should drop to about 1000 1100 rpm on idle when the engine is at operating condition.

Check your app handbook should tell you what the tick over rpm is before it moves into EV mode I think?
I constantly keep an eye on the revs . Battery full battery not full car cold car warm is doesn’t matter it always idling at 1400 rpm that’s after 1000 miles and 8 weeks . I contacted MG and they said this is correct. Shirley it’s burning more fuel than required 🤷‍♂️.

Battery full is it not going into EV mode ? My previous Toyota Corolla hybrid had tick over of 1300 rpm so 1400 must be correct. My zs hybrid sometimes at 1400 sometimes at 1000 depends on the electronics of the vehicle which will determine whether high low or electric petrol or EV mode all different rpms but the engine will run higher when cold or in recharge mode for the EV battery me thinks, that's on the zs hybrid could operate differently on the hs hybrid?

What do we concider cold weather? It was at average 15 celsius last month in Croatia, and now last 3 days its around 5. All this time, even when batery full, and inside temperature is achived, engine is still idleing 1400 rpm and very rearly entering EV mode.

It's not what we consider cold weather, it's what the engineers consider what the electronics should do in different temperatures running conditions? Maybe you should get it booked in for a check to make sure all it's software is up-to-date etc , and everything is working how it should? That's what I would do for piece of mind ?
