Hi all, hope life's treating you well.
I finally connected my android phone to my S5 and by all intentions it seemed to pair/connect fine, even synchronising contacts etc. The issue however is that every time I get into the car it automatically starts up Android Auto, obviously connecting to my phone. Not only do I not want this to happen automatically but it immediately renders the infotainment screen useless by either freezing it or making it lag badly. Even when clicking either of the Home buttons it either lags or refuses to go to the Home screen. The only way to get the screen back to it's usual self is to disconnect my phone and unpair it so the car isn't looking for it. I'm assuming that it's more than likely an issue with the way I'm doing things, or the way AA is set up, but has anyone else had this annoyance and if so did they find a way around it? I like the idea of my phone connecting automatically to the car so if anyone calls me I can respond safely etc but not to the point AA takes over and renders the entire screen unusable. Any ideas?

Have you seen this thread @Wilse > MG S5 Apple Carplay/UI freezing
Thanks Clive. Just read through all 9 pages. I can't believe an impending/downloading update would brick the system, major design/software fault if so. I'll check it again over the next few days and see if I encounter any more issues. I have had an SOS Call fault warning come on once I enter the car but it disappears shortly after driving. I think that might be a reception issue rather than an actual fault but I'll keep an eye on it.

I absolutely love my S5, it's a phenomenal upgrade on our old Cmax, but I hope our ownership of such an awesome car doesn't get marred by stupid things like this. I honestly can't believe the entire operating system of the car gets negatively affected/bricked by MG doing an OTA update. If that is in fact the case, it's concerning to think safety features and the operation of the screen/options can be affected by something away from the car without allowing the car to remain fully functioning and safe 🤔

Press the home button and the screen will revert back to the infotainment screen's home page. If you want to choose when AA connects tap the Android Auto square and tap disconnect. When you want it to reconnect tap the AA square again and select connect.

The car's operating system wasn't bricked. If it was there would be MGS5s abandoned everywhere but they all remained drivable. They could accelerate, brake, turn, indicate etc. but without the driver aids.
Yes it's deplorable what happened and hopefully they've learned their lesson and it won't happen again but a lot of cars have returned to normal and a lot weren't affected.

As stated in my original message:
"Even when clicking either of the Home buttons it either lags or refuses to go to the Home screen."

Obviously it wasn't 'bricked' (apologies for upsetting you) but not being able to return to the home screen or any settings screen to adjust safety settings was clearly a concern.

I'll try your advice regarding the AA button, appreciate that. Would that still enable me to connect my phone to the car without automatically activating AA?
