Perhaps a cautionary tale !
As I have mentioned elsewhere I spent a few days staying at Heythrop Park for a new year getaway. They have dozens of Podpoint 7kW chargers so very handy for topping up for pootling around and the journey home. The charge for these is 57p/kWh, not too bad.
However as you may know these aren't PAYG, you have to preload your account on the app with dosh. As I had arrived with 29% remaining I intended to top up to about 60% for the pootling about part and then do another charge to around 85% for the journey home.
So I loaded a tenner into the account, important thing to note here is that is the minimum you can add. it already had £3 in it from about 4 years ago, so that would add about 22 kWh taking me to just over 60%.
In my simple mind I thought that when my money ran out the charging would stop, but no it carried on, and next thing I know before I manage to stop it is I've got about 90% SOC and a negative balance on the app of £11.
Odd thinks I but anyway got to time for charging to come home and decided I only needed about a fiver to add enough. Of course it now refuses to start a new charge as I owe it money. so fair enough I decided to add £16 to the app and armed with my new found knowledge, watch it carefully to stop the charge on the car app at the right time.
HOWEVER when I tried to top up by the required £16 it wouldn't let me !!! It would only allow me to clear the £11 negative balance. Then of course I would have had to add another tenner, the minimum, to start a charge. This would have left me with them having my money again. The only way to get a refund is to close the account.
So end of a long story, I didn't top up, I called in at Banbury Tesla, cost 56p/kWh and added the necessary and I still have a negative balance at Podpoint.
